Wow, so much enjoyed this. D-Bo is a class act, and Rod is incredibly humble and honest. Great stuff

This was a great podcast because I think what Rod is talking about is something that all serious runners could consider and try in their own races. Are we going to perform like Rod? Of course not. But the advice here could help the average runner maximize their potential, which I think is a worthy goal.

I want to say this is some kind of Rudy story, but Rudy was riding the bench, Rod has been in the front for a while now - love his attitude of "yeah that guy is fantastic, but why can't I also be fantastic"

The salt (sodium) conversation is an interesting one. I have read (can’t remember the source 😜) that those who lose a large amount of sodium in their sweat might because they take in too much salt. I was always dehydrating on runs over 10 miles. A friend suggested I double the amount of skratch per bottle, I did , drinking 500ml per hour. Still had issues. So I added a salt tablet every hr. My vest, hat etc had a lot of salt on them after a run. Friend no2 recently suggested I was over salted and not taking enough liquid. Now using regular str skratch but drinking two bottles an hour. Perfect (for me). Ran a marathon week ago, hot sunny. No dehydration issue. Such and interesting individual thing. I think Rod’s biggest takeaway is make effort and changes to see what works for you. Go Rod 😀🏃♂️🏃♂️

Freaking love these mad scientist type pro ultra runners. So cool of him for sharing all these nutrition and hydration metrics. I also love people like Courtney who are GOATs but are shy of talking about their greatness. Amazing sport!

I didn't even know anything about trail running or that ultrarunning was even a things. Both of these funny, talented persons have motivated me to dive into this space as someone older but inspired by the stories and journey's of these real life, relatable athletes. Training and hope to do a massive race one day. Thank you for the gift you're providing us newbies and alike

Hmmm, as a nurse listening to him describe his severe pain, please get to the ER sooner! You all have a high pain tolerance! Writhing in pain is not normal! Any type of viral or bacterial infection can cause inflammation in the appendix. Training for long distances makes you mildly immunocompromised. Glad you took time off to heal. I know it’s very disappointing. 🫤
