I drove up from Crowley and rode Sonora Pass from the 395 Jct about 10 years ago. It’s not the highest but still around 3k ft.. and I went over the Pass and a ways down toward Dardanelles to add some miles. It’s my favorite of the Eastside passes. Lots of green and lots of water. And it was late in the season so not much traffic. Great road for the skinny tires

Was on this stretch of Road back in 1985 when I was traveling with my family to see my grandparents in Canon City. Had an aunt and several cousins who lived in Canon too. Sadly, all of them are gone. My grandfather was a guard at the prison in Canon City for years. You mentioned Florence. That town has the Federal supermax prisons, housing the most notorious of prisoners, including the Green River Killer.

Nice one as usual, and pretty close to the Ocean, I might add. The Tsunami warnings are due to the fact that Crescent City was hit by one spawned by the Alaska Earthquake in 1964... and they even got waves (small ones) from the Japan one back in 2011 or 12. Oh, as you're going along the 101 in Redwood NP? There have been Bigfoot sightings on the highway, and also along 199, so be warned. You might see the big guy crossing the road in front of you!

I bet the road through the redwoods is super dark at night considering that most of the time in the video you cannot see the sky. Saw the insane $5.50/gal gas prices in Crescent City. How much do the gas prices drop after entering Oregon or from the Tribal land gas station I saw advertised along the road?
@lawman5922 күн бұрын
From prior experience, the gas prices return to "normal" once you cross the Oregon state line. That's why it's best to gas up in Brookings if you're continuing north or coming in from the south on US 101.

Great drive! You know, of all the Sierra-crossing highways, Hwy 88 seemed to take the longest time getting through the foothills. Has anyone else noticed this? Or, is it just my imagination? It really was a lot more fun, before all the stoplights, roundabouts, and traffic. Was it really necessary?

Kyle, on a mountain outside Butte, a statue of Jesus Christ was built and completed in 1985. I drove through Butte Montana in 1992 seven years later and don’t remember seeing a sign for that attraction anywhere. It’s the Mandela effect. The phenomenon is real!!🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

@@Dulcimerist the statue of Mary (excuse me) has been standing for forty years and I’ve known about it for only five? I’m 57 years old and I lived and been around the Northwestern United States my whole life.
@DulcimeristКүн бұрын
@@jamesmassey-cc4ml If they had been able to create the tram to it in order to make it a tourist attraction, it would probably be more famous. (Legal action and a private road blocked the tram.) I live in Montana, and only learned about it from a Butte, MT documentary on PBS. I had seen it from I-90 prior to that, but wasn't sure what exactly it was. Someone had once told me incorrectly that it was a statue of St. Anne, mother of Mary, grandmother of Jesus. St. Anne isn't even the patron saint of miners.

In Dallas, we have 70 mph speed limits with much more traffic. And on the toll lanes, the speed limit is 75 mph. So the 65 mph seems strangely low with the comparitively sparse traffic.

I really love the meadow at 0:55 . I remember a time when one could just pull off the road at a spot like that, and have a picnic---no permits, no reservations, no fees, no restrictions, ... I can still recall the flavor of bologna sandwiches, cold fried chicken, macaroni salad, home-baked cookies, and cream soda. Folks today will never know those simple joys.
