30 minutes of flight time? Did you do any research for this video 😂

490 lbs useful load. I'm 6'5" and 240 lbs. Me and even an average size friend at 200 lbs doesn't leave much room for fuel.
@TaylorHaubrich
@TaylorHaubrich 4 күн бұрын
@@Bill4LE I just ran the math on the figures you gave me. 240 + 200 equals 440 lbs leaving you with 50 lbs of fuel. Icon a5 burns 4 gallons an hour roughly. Considering a gallon of fuel weighs 6 pounds, that leaves you with 8 gallons of fuel or 2 hours of flying for you and your mate. 2 hours is a good bit more than 30 minutes 😆 Also is it the a5's fault you and your mate weigh 240 and 200? If you both lost 25 pounds that would give you an additional 8 gallons of fuel thereby doubling your flight time to 4 hours. Assuming you fly at 90 miles an hour you can potentially cover 360 miles. Myself personally, I could almost fly the a5 all the way from my house in Tennessee to my house in Panama City FL in one go cutting my travel time from 8 hours by car to 4 hours in the a5. Almost.

@@TaylorHaubrich You never use the min in-cruise fuel burn (4gph). I'd add 1-2gph to be conservative. I also fly with bag and conservatively estimate 20 lbs for both me and a passenger. that's 40 lbs left for fuel. Then you have 14 CFR § 91.151. Never faulted the plane for not fitting my mission. It's a cool thing just with an engine I won't tough and a useful that's not useful for me.

Bill! Your videos are outstanding. I’ve been binging all of your videos! I’m starting to fly again after a 20 year break (family, $$, etc) and your explanations of SoCal airport operations with ATC and calling out all the little “quirks” of each airport is helping so much! Great air adventures and food is in my future! Thanks Bill! See ya!!!

Hi Bill. UK'er here! 45hrs PPL a decade ago or so, trained in the Southwest UK, a few solos, sadly had to stop at that time. I'm often in OC, a couple blocks from SNA and admire the Cessna's overhead in pattern whilst i'm sat by the pool!... Fascinated by your videos, that and a combination of the latest MS Flight Sim have completely re-enchanted me, so much so I think I'll take a few lessons when I'm back in Irvine, maybe see you around mate! Would you kindly know of any good schools for a few light refresher lessons at SNA, perhaps just pattern work? Best wishes from England.

Fantastic! I'm so glad you're enjoying the videos :) Really the only flight school I'd given my money to is Royal. Pacific is ok but expensive and teach poor patters at SNA lol. Give Royal a shot! SNA is unfortunately a terrible place to train.

DC-8's and some WWII planes actually had leading edge slots. They move more air circulation around the desired surface to increase lift. You see them under the leading edge on main wings to pump up circulation over the top, and on the top to pump up circulation under the bottom for desired nose up pitch authority for the 177. In cruise the air flows straight back until AoA increases enough to create a vacuum at the entrance of the slot. It is a bit of a trade-off since some air is getting through at higher speeds. Some designs have actual door that open up to expose the slot at the desired speeds. MD-11's also have slots [with articulating cover doors] to energize the smaller elevators than the DC-10 had. McDonnell Douglas did that with articulating doors on jets so it is fared over smooth in cruise but allowed smaller wings and tails for field performance and slow flight. So trimable horizontal and slots since the horizontal is relatively small on the 177 make it perform better. Nice 3 point landing though :/

Beautiful looking plane. I owned a 1972 177B for 7 years & used it mostly for aerial photography. Great flyer for long trips too. Only recurring issue i had was the nose gear strut had a shimmy upon landing otherwise easy to fly & landings were simple. I truly miss flying her. Thanks for the video!

Beautiful flight :-) Nice Landing Sir :-) We all like to help each other in aviation so... I noticed no "G.U.M.P.B.L.E.S." from you on the downwind. Let's not forget this mental checklist: GAS, (We good? Do I need to switch tanks?); UNDERCARRIAGE, (Gear down if applicable?); MIXTURE, (Rich?); PROP, (Adjust if applicable); BRAKES, (Quick tap to check hydraulic pressure); LIGHTS, (Landing light/s on); ENGINE GAUGES, (Check all gauges in the green); SEAT BELTS! (Check all passengers have their seat belts on :-) So, in Short, memorize this: Gas - Undercarriage - Mixture - Prop - Brakes - Lights - Engine Gauges - Seat Belts Anyway, Dude that landing was BUTTER!
