Are you in Forsyth County near the Cherokee County line? If so, that is a Methodist campground and they had camp meeting last month.

You were at the intersection of Meeting & Broad Streets, it’s referred to as the four corners of law. Originally you had City Hall (city law), County Court House (state law), the Federal Court House (federal law) & St. Michael’s Episcopal Church (gods law) with one on each corner. If you continued walking down Meeting Street across Broad you would be South Of Broad and those that live South Of Broad are referred to locally by some as SOB’s, not as in son of a ……. but South Of Broad. Just a few local tid bits from a local boy. Hope you enjoyed your stay.

I am from a nearby town. My Father told me that in the 1930s if you were from a different town and dated a girl in Rhine your tires would be cut when you went back to your car. It had a rough reprutation back then, ................and after. The schools in Eastman, Rhine, Chester, Chauncy, and Dodge Elementary (4 miles out of Eastman), all use to be schools of their communities. They built 2 new schools in Eastman, North Dodge and South Dodge Elementary, then closed the old schools of the communities. I say it was a waste of money. Some politician probably made some money out of the deal one way or another.

I'd lvoe to see it redone one day. We lived in it for about 1 year. It was actually one of me and my wife's first homes before we started our bussiness and rlly got on our feet. Lot of memories there

Most of the bars and "nightlife" is in the central and upper part of the peninsula, upper King St, Market St, East bay St as if going towards market street (looks like thats where you were at when you found the bar) and also there is a few places on the westside but getting there by foot is not going to happen (at least in the same day 😆) because like you said the city is quite large for what it is. Off of Rutledge Ave on the west side is a place called Moes Tavern, Excellent food and dive bar atmosphere and a local spot. some of the bars can be a bit gritty as you travel further and further towards the neck and into North Charleston but they are fun if what you described as "your type of bar". Dive bars, Biker bars also bars that will eventually lead to a night in jail.
