The incident at the Railway Station to which you refer occurred on January 8, 1887 in the station yard. At about 3.30 p.m., William Heath (69) was searching for a cab, when the veranda over the cab stand was torn away from the wall under the weight of snow, and he was killed on the spot. The cab men had moved away from the stand owing to the danger. However, one cab was badly damaged and the horse slightly hurt. The entrance to the station was at platform level at this time, and the yard sloped up to the station frontage on made up ground which was excavated in 1902 in connection with the station enlargement works. The roof that spanned the platforms in 1887 did not collapse and kill William Heath. The present day veranda roof on platform three dates from 1924.

@@MikeandTeresaExplore Hi, normally I would check the details by reference to the Shrewsbury Chronicle reports of the incident. However, an internet search has caused me to revise my comment, it appears that William Heath was searching for a cab, and not on his way to the station.

Beautiful cathedral and great introduction to it. We live about 30 minutes down the road from it, so have visited fairly often, it is one of my favourites. Reason Six would be the excellent acoustics, and if anyone can manage it, I recommend combining your visit with a music event. We attended a Welsh Male Voice choir there some years ago, the sound was spectacular.

Hi thanks for your lovely comments. Yes it does have fantastic acoustics. We once met Charity Qiun in the cathedral, she taught Ed Sheeran hope to sing and she did a very short performance in Lady Chapel. Gloucester Cathedral - Featuring Charity Quin kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d7dhnpOHrpvXYKc.html

Lovely video - very moving. My late mother, Christine Harlock (then Leslie) was a sergeant in the intelligence corps at Bletchley Park, in traffic analysis, attached to Hut Six, in 1944/45. Her husband-to-be, Commander Mark Harlock was in HMS Vigilant on Russian Convoy in 1944, then the Far East in 1945. They were married in 1952 and in 1958 Dad went to work in the Middle East Section of GCHQ, by now having moved from Bletchley to Cheltenham. As a large family, we knew nothing of Mum's wartime work until the 1990s and even then she was very cagey about saying anything. What a generation that was! Thanks for another great video.

Thanks for your comments and what great background story. Did your mum know your Dad in 1944 or did they meet later ? M&T
@johnharlock7 ай бұрын
@@MikeandTeresaExplore No they didn't know each other then as Dad was Australian; they only met in 1951 when he was on leave in Budleigh Salterton, Devon, at one of the beautiful houses for officers on leave from the Dominions. They met on the tennis courts! Thanks again for your great videos - beautifully edited😄.
