At 36 years old, I started doing ballet out of the blue 1-2 hours a day for a month, and have been slammed with left but pain every single day. Yes I’m stretching and kneading out the knots multiple times a day. Thanks for this video.

@@TheBalletBlog-LisaHowell It went really well! Most of my students are beginners, nevertheless they can do most of the things (like one leg balances with closed eyes) while having a challenge in the advanced adult crawling exercises. I replaced the third repetition with some stretches and mobilizers, and now we do it for warm-up. Thanks again!

@@BallettmitKira That is wonderful to hear! It was a great idea to replace the 3rd version of the adult crawling sequence to mobilisers and to work towards the advanced adult crawling exercises in future!

I feel like the tape does nothing, it's far to slight a pressure to make a difference. Do you have any suggestions? I've had bunions my whole life. I had surgery to straighten them, but they are getting worse again.
@TheBalletBlog-LisaHowell3 ай бұрын
Hi Mary, It can sometimes take some practice to find the right tension on the tape. You can try to increase the tension to feel the pressure. As mentioned in this video, this taping technique will only help if you can manually reposition your first metatarsal yourself. If there have already been bony changes this will not work. If you have had surgery and your bunions are still getting worse, the issue is usually found further up the chain. If this is the case, it would be more appropriate to focus on a hip conditioning and/or gait retraining program. I hope this helps!

Great video! Do you have any recommendations for FHL injury exercises x
@TheBalletBlog-LisaHowell5 ай бұрын
Hi Bethany, Thank you very much for your kind words. Exercises for FHL injury will differ depending on why you have an FHL injury! For example, scrunching or clawing your toes. Our Advance Foot Control program is a great resource for learning how to use your feet well. You can read more about this program here: theballetblog.com/shop/advanced-foot-control-program/ We are currently in the process of creating a new course - Level 3 - Foot and Ankle Injuries in Dancers. This course will cover appropriate exercises for FHL injury. We are aiming to have this open for participants in May 2024. Please keep an eye out on our website and social media for this announcement. I hope this helps! Kind Regards, Lisa at The Ballet Blog

Hi Futoon, The girl in this video did indeed have a bunion - although it was quite an early stage!Her grandmother and mother both had them so it is best to get in early in order to prevent bunions. This is much better than waiting until bunions develop extensively. This taping technique is very helpful for this purpose. I hope this helps!

So appreciate your information!! ❤ I was trained in tap and jazz and was a competitive dancer in clogging. I am now 49 and doctors can't figure out what's happening with my muscles 😭 how do I explain to my physical therapist that dancers will overcompensate using other muscles and treatment needs to be approached differently..? 😢

Hello, Thank you very much for your kind words. It is important that you find a local therapist who understands dancers. You may like to use our Dance Teacher and Health Professional Directory (for anyone who has completed one of my courses). Hi Lisa, It makes a lot of sense and I tried it at night before sleep. After 3 hours, I was wakened up by the soreness and pain around the bunion area and also my arch. I swear I didn't make it very tight, only some slight stretch of the tape as you demonstrated in the video. I felt good and my toe was lined up nicely when I finished taping, but it seems that wearing it for some hours isn't a good idea? Is it not for daily life wearing? Or does it suggest I have other issues than a bunion? Is a certain level of discomfort normal, like orthodontic treatment? Is it true what I felt is the process of the taping is "correcting" my bones?
