Hi Linda! I have been noticing and am concerned with the bad crotch on your maple tree. It may be a good idea to have your tree expert take a closer look at it, which I was surprised that he did not notice it the day he was there. It may cause problems for you in the future. Signed, a concerned tree trainer. 🙂

Rather than relocating it, I agree, repeat it several times thru the bed. Lambs ear and I are BFF's.

I like the lamb's ear but would divide them to 3 or 4 and plant them between the boxwoods.

I like the lambs ear but it could also go in your backyard color scheme. No bud worms yet but I’ve been fighting that problem for several years. 🤞🤞

I would leave the lambs ear , put a couple other clusters of it along the brick wall area . I think planting a silver falls to drape and cascade down the wall in several areas would look stunning ! The lighter color / smooth texture, like the lambs ear , would off set all the other plant foliage texture you have along the wall. It will actually lead your eye through the garden to where your other lighter shade color plants are, hydrangeas,. Also trimming the flower off of the lambs ear will definitely give it a different look that you may like better.thanks for your videos, it’s my zen to watch. 🥰

Make sure you leave the male pumpkin plant flowers to pollinate your female ones. Don’t pull them all off. Of course, both male and female ones need to be open simultaneously for pollination to happen. 🌱

I like lamb's ear in a border, but it does need to be divided to keep it in check. I would also think the neighborhood children would enjoy touching it too.

I agree it does stick out BUT what if you were to move it to the other side and put it where you are thinking to put the dusty miller that you cut back in the place on the left of the tree it's the same color you already have over there ??? Just a suggestion

Yes, relocate the “grey blob.” Overall, your garden looks so pretty! Linda, I’ve read that yes, deer won’t eat rocket barberry, but as they pass by with deer ticks on their hide, the barberry attracts the type of ticks that carry lyme disease. The ticks make a home for themselves at the base of the rocket barberry. I can’t give you the source of where I read that but I decided, with all the deer around where I live, growing pretty rocket barberry is not worth the risk of getting lyme disease. You likely don’t have deer in your urban setting.

The lamb's ear plant is so similarly colored as the birch(?) behind it. Yes. Move it. I'm sure you'll find a dark corner in the back yard for it to brighten up. I'm still working to get everything planted. I went a bit crazy over winter and ordered many plants...then bought even more locally. My frustration is weeds. We've had an amazing amount of rain (after several years of drought, I'm not complaining), but now the weeds are carpeting my gardens. Trying to get them young before they set seeds. I'm working on a new garden along the neighbors' chain link fence to disguise their trash bins. Digging up lawn that's full of quack grass is taking up so much of my time. I want to get to the fun stuff...planting!

The lamb's ear is taking away from the trunk of the tree behind it. That said, it might look good in the backyard in a good sized container as a third point of the cool green of the olive trees. I find lambs ear like mint, better in a container.

Linda, re the Lamb's ear, do what makes you happy. In my southern NM hot and dry dry dry climate I just love the cooling gray-green like my Powis Castle artemisia. I that was my yard it would be what I want but it is your yard and you have the most fantastic taste and I want to see what you do with the spaces. I didn't say so at the time but I thought your brick "rug" idea was not my cup of tea and now every time I see them I think they are stunning! I can't wait to see what's next!

I understand what you are saying about the lambs ear. I like the Helen Von Stein lambs ear because it has more of a green hue to it and it’s tidier than what yours is looking. I’m not big on the silvery gray plants, that’s why I don’t care for the dusty miller either. If you were to keep it, I would move it to the inside of the garden near the purples - buddleia, or penstemon. I love how your trees are filling out and providing some shade so quickly. For my own garden, I’m super happy to have made some final decisions on structural elements within an area I’ve been working on for a few years…things are finally coming together. Annnd, I have a David Austin climber that was a little damaged last year but was told to plant it and see what happens (after a refund - they were awesome), which is full of buds! It has put on so much growth and the flowers have been amazing!😁

You should think about getting rid of the hackberry trees. My neighbor in Birmingham Alabama had some and not only are they messy dripping black sap everywhere but they are weak trees and several of the large trunks fell.

I think you need to divide the Lamb's ear, and have a few in spots further down. It will look tamer after the flower spikes are finished. That said, if yiu don't like it feel free to pull it.

I live in Montgomery Alabama. I planted 4 small Hibiscus (Rose of Sharon) in large containers. When I went to water them one of the days that we did not get rain, I was mortified to see that all of the leaves had been chewed off. I did not see any pest on them so I don’t know what ate them but I do know that I had Japanese Beetles on my strawberry plants that were in a location not near the Hibiscus. Two questions…if the stems look healthy will they survive and what would you suggest spraying them with. I sprayed the strawberries with a homemade mixture of water, soda and dish detergent and haven’t seen any in several days. I love your channel and I have followed you for several years. Also love your book.
