Have only just come across this piece, even though it happened a few years ago. My friend in Newquay always kept me infomed but I never saw any of this wonderful footage before. Thank you for uploading it. Huge fan

I live in Bristol and I knew Monica personally. I was in a women's spirituality group in the early 1990s that used to meet at her flat. I have a necklace of Kali ma she bought me back from San Francisco.

AHHhhhh where did it all go? I love it. I was part of one of these, selling vegetable food amongst other things. I distinctly remember a 'Fire Ceremony' and some 'Vikings' turned up that were not impressed with our vegetarian stall and insisted on 'MEEEET' as they pointed to their mouths. The next morning after a long nights noisy hubaloo, the Vikings tipped a large cauldron of odd bones and liquid leftovers behind a hedge, I presumed they'd been and killed a pig or something. I did love the oddness of everything and do miss it, though I only went to one back in the 70's. Thanks for uploading these memories.

Clive is one of my favourite musicians, his music inspired me tremendously to write and record my own songs. It's so lovely to hear from the man himself. I also thoroughly recommend the book Empty Pocket Blues: The Life and Music Of Clive Palmer by Grahame Hood to anyone interested in the music of this legendary and overlooked British master.

I don't care what the reference books all say I like this charming little Cornish horror film, a potent brew of folk horror, ritual gore and Andy Milliganesque costume theater with amusing character turns, and Mike Raven is GOOD in it. Screw the book writers they're wrong.

Saw this on daytime TV as a young child in the mid-80s. I must’ve been home sick with a high fever, and up until now I thought I must’ve imagined it because it was so bizarre and I thought I might have been confusing it with Vampire Circus. By chance I came across it and see it was real after all.

Totally brilliant, met Monica many times and new her a little. She called me on my early mobile onine years ago when i settled in glastonbury warning me against the new age . We talked alot about the intersexuality of the great gynanderous mother, womens rights, patriarchy. She was a close friend of my then husbands family. I slept under her paintings for a week had amazing dreams in a cottage in Glostershire. My husband was danish so they shared scandinavian ancestry. She was fab, amazing woman, after she died i read her book, return of the dark light mother... it changed my life. Meeting her changed me, she gave me strength when id been steamrolled by men all my life. Thanks Monica .

Love it! Modern folk lore created from nothing without any historical tradition. Just as good for all that. I adore the fact that tourists including those from foreign shores will be totally taken in in believing this is something remotely genuine! Looks like great fun.
@Wotsitorlabart Жыл бұрын
Not just the tourists but the people of Helston also. I bet if you asked the locals how old this 'enactment' of the Hal-an-Tow song was they would say it is 'pagan' - it actually dates from 1930. The song, however, dates from at least 1790. But yes, it is all great fun.
