I am Indigenous American, I am a woman, I am from Michigan. Dear Ohio, If you’re so much greater than Michigan then why are you the one upset? If you’d like a equality… Ohio is not the place for you. If you like the homeless living in your backyard or standing on the corners full of trash begging for money or prostitutes walking up and down your street looking through your windows if all of that’s fine with you, hey welcome to Hell-hio. Ohio is the corniest place I’ve ever lived and I’ve lived all over america.

Columbus Sucks. You will either pay high taxes supporting welfare recipients or you won't work and collect a welfare check. Buy local community is a joke (in fact that is a flat lie from this realtor)…many fortune companies are located in Ohio/Cbus and they will work you to death. Don't forget to tell them about the 5 J (ew) families that control Columbus ….Lazarus family, Shottenstein family, Wexner family, Wolfe family, etc. Total corruption. The public schools are a joke, it is centered on the agriculture of Ohio. The people are freaks over a college football team, yet many of these people never attended Ohio State. In fact, that is their entire culture because literally there is nothing to do. Born and raised in Ohio and finally left. DO NOT MOVE TO OHIO...Columbus citizens think that Columbus is the best place to live yet they have never been any where else. The construction is the union workers who refuse to actually work so you will continually have road construction with horrible roads and traffic. Don't forget Columbus Ohio is a sanctuary city so you will be second to the "newcomers."

Columbus, Ohio is the safest city of all the cities where I have lived. With that said, the Hilltop, where I live, is certainly not the safest place in Columbus, but it has some affordable housing and that cops are usually way too busy attending some homicide or busting a mule on wheels, then to bother you with the minor distracting stuff. Make sure to be mindful of the roach and bedbug infestation that love this city too (word of warning: do not pick up a beautiful Ethan Allen hanging out by the street). The people throughout Columbus are super friendly and quick to say hi, but usually by some homeless man scoping the area and approaching you for some change or bills. Plant them in the spring, and they will grow by summer; this pretty much describes the cones and barrels for all the road construction going on here. This is the largest college football community in the world, and I am bored of sports.

My untilities are a lot more expensive than what your saying. Electric is around $300+ in summer. And around $160+ in winter. Gas is around $100+ in summer $350+ in winter. My home is a little under 2000 sq ft

Ok there is nothing but big box stores here. You must live in the suburbs because I do all my shopping at bix box stores. And property taxes are high. The schools get a big chunk and so does our Zoo. We have the larhest Zoo in the country. Columbus is actually a very nice place to live

I have lived in Columbus for 29 yrs, I'm originally from Michigan. Top reasons I love Columbus: 1. Diversity- at all income levels there is racial diversity in most neighborhoods, even in the suburbs. There are not many neighborhoods here that are all one race. You can be in the hood, and its still multiracial. 2. Affordable - I'm a single mom and I own my own 3br, 1 bath home in quiet neighborhood. I pay about $1000 a month mortgage. I lived comfortable on a $50k salary. Other cities in the US I might be homeless on the same salary. 3. People are friendly - people will strike up conversations with you at the store, smile at you when walking past, hold the door for you...even help out with a flat tire in some cases. 4. A lot of jobs opportunities in Healthcare, banking, finance and education. These are my top reasons to live here!

I don't know where's she's getting her information but that is not what it's like to live in Cols. Some things are right but at least 75-80% of her information is wrong. For example the cost of living is terrible. You could get by on $10/hour but your going to be renting an apartment that makes you feel like your in poverty. Low rentals are $800 (Highland ST.) That's 2-1/2 weeks pay at. At the prices now as I've been looking for something else. Car payment food, your broke. You need at least $30 to feel comfortable. There are also more rentals around Cols than their are home owners. There's a project getting started to add another 500 apartments at $1000/month 15 minutes form High st. She needs to actually look around Cols. Her office is in Dublin which is not part of Cols. It feels like Cols because it's just 1 big city at this point. Even the suburbs. In Dublin area the average home value is 550K Some of the homes near her office are 2.5M and up. You wanna see Cols. I'll show you what it really looks like.

Depends where you live. But I notice mostly chain restaurants and the same stuff over and over again. Not everyone can afford to live in Dublin or German Village or Short North. I see a Starbucks, a chipotle a Kroger and CVS on every main road everywhere. Cameron Mitchell restaurants everywhere. Every community has the same chains.

Columbus leads the world in zoos and cancer research. And has the 2nd largest university. The economy is supported by government. With Columbus being the state capitol, education thru Ohio State University. This stabilizes the economy. A lot of people live in Ohio. There are communities everywhere. Not just in the city proper. And they commute to work. Generalizations are difficult about central Ohio. There is lots of diversity. Lots of opportunity. The weather is more favorable to plant life than human life. Ohio is 100 shades of green. In season. Winters are just gray. Some say depressing. Ohio is the center of the opioid epidemic. Columbus fared better than some cities. It’s not a dominate factor.

Have lived in the US in Norcal and Upstate NY. The seven things we need to know before moving to Ohio, as compared to what I have seen in Cal/NYS, are pretty ‘mild’. Any case, thanks for sharing. Great to know that the city/state are safer than the places I lived in before. :)

The real list: 1) the crime is outrageous, 2) the taxes provide you with no benefits you would get in other cities, 3) there’s almost nothing to do outdoors from a sports perspective, 4) the trash in the common areas is outrageous, 5) the city is being rebuilt, but that’s because large swaths of the city are impoverished, 6) fentanyl creeps it’s way into these supposedly wonderful schools, 7) crime, crime, crime… put some copper gutters on your house? Stolen. Drive to Polaris with your family? Get shot at. Nice family time downtown? See an open drug deal. Go shopping on high street? Get accosted by a homeless person. Send your kid to OSU? Have them robbed. Bonus 8) Most folks in Ohio are delusional and think the state is amazing. Ohio is failing in many many metrics. What would really help Ohio would be to deal with these problems rather than encouraging the constant mass consumption of alcohol and nearly continuous deflection as seen in videos like this one.
