Aha! Finally worked it out. They are talking about people recording on their mobile devices during a performance and posting it on Twitter or something the next day. The interviewer told him that Domingo had said this was the difference between performing nowadays that everyone all over the world would hear what your tone had been like. Jonas was more or less saying that it was something you had to get used to - all the camera flashes and that you just have to live with the pressure. He said it happened to every singer in opera houses all over the world and wasn't just happening to him. He said that it was important to keep yourself above the pain level otherwise you expose yourself to some kind of hostility and bashing. He said that it is true that this is really difficult but can't be changed as you can't invent any kind of device that would go against a cell phone chip and best it. He said that you can't try to suppress them but must stay calm and leave them alone. I think it must be awful for singers. If I were in an opera audience I would just not do it. I might film the applause at the end but the performance itself? Never.

My wish is someone would create a play or movie that seeks to portray Lenny as Alex and Jaime knew him. The connection between Jewish life of endless questioning and his love of texts was spot on. Excellent. The backstory on how hard it was for Lenny to be alone. How his extroverted self sought to compose with theater buddies or to party at the keyboard with four hands. It all makes sense. Lenny’s inner self could meet the demands of his extroverted self with orchestras to breathe new life into Mahler and his sense of life in Vienna as a Jew at the turn of the 20th Century. It all makes sense.

Für Daniel Barenboim ist diese Aufnahme des Neujahrskonzert bis heute die beste aller Zeiten. Aber Karajan ist halt nicht mehr en vogue bei den pseudointellektuellen Musikern der Gegenwart.
