I have a like-dislike relationship with dogs, not quite a love-hate kind. I had my own old-style German shepherd when I was younger and single. I spent time training her and played with lots. Got her spayed, vaccinated and kept up her license fees. I trained her to stop barking when I told her but sometimes her barking was appreciated as it warned me when someone she didn't know came. She was a wonderful dog! I've seen more like her - usually the somewhat larger working breeds who are quite intelligent if trained and socialised. On the other hand, I dislike ANY dog that is noisy ad badly behaved, or unfriendly and potentially dangerous. Sadly now, both scenarios have become all too common where I live. Yappy (brainless) little dogs, toy breeds, who won't shut up even when the owner tells them too, and will try to sneak up behind you to bite your ankles. Hence the name "ankle-biters" or as my son calls them, "portable footballs" as that's the only thing they're good for. There are also large scary dogs, almost always behind rural places with high fences, locked gates and security cameras all over. Places that are large illegal grow-ops (marijuana) or drug labs that make illegal so-called recreational drugs. Rarely does anyone live there. They're just illegal business operations so the bigger and meaner the dog, the better.

Raising awareness in my city is difficult , it's not a big city but people are lazy and kind of insensitive.. they always say there is no money to neuter but you can see them drinking beer a lot every weekend and buying clothes like rich ..! Every block you can find clothes stores and bars..no libraries or bookstores ..it is our sad culture and reality for most of the second and third world countries

travelling with the train in the netherlands is only confusing for foreigners and tourists who dont know where to go, wich makes sense, because if i would be in a foreign country travelling with train everything would be confusing for me as well.

The riots are probably not a result of fireworks at all. New Years eve is the day where by far the most alcohol is used. And alcohol in NL is responsible (or involved) in 80% of all violence in weekends...So the other weekends, they do not use fireworks but they are every bit as violent. But no one advocates to ban alcohol, some do want to ban fireworks for no good reasons at all.

I think there's recent and more positive update since this video has been made: Contactless payments can now be used on all Dutch public transport. This eliminates the need to buy an ov-chipcard. Simply check-in and check-out using your smartphone or contactless bank card, making it much easier than having to buy an ov-chipcard.

Why do sandwiches have to be mile-high these days? Eating 2-3 normal-size sammies (if you're that hungry) will be much more enjoyable than this new-fangled abomination of an established food item. Since I live in America, I think I know where this unsavory trend is coming from - everything here has to be excessive.

and how big was the dog population when these policies began?
@williamgeardener25092 жыл бұрын
It was a very big problem. In the beginning of the19th century almost everyone had one dog in the Netherlands. But people didn't look after their dogs. As a result a lot of puppies were born which became stray dogs because no one could afford to have so many dogs. When the government started to impose a tax on dogs, the problem got even bigger because people were too poor to pay these taxes so they literally kicked the dog out.
@emremokoko2 жыл бұрын
@@williamgeardener2509 Thanks for your answer. I was especially interested in the current population. Since the government in claiming that the current no-kill policy is successful + there are no stray dogs, I wonder what the population was when this policy was in effect. There is a huge difference if a policy "works" for 50 dogs or 500 thousand dogs.
@williamgeardener25092 жыл бұрын
@@emremokoko You seem to think that the problem was solved in a few years. In reality the government started in the 19th century to fight the problem. The first animal protection organisation was founded in 1864, the first animal shelter in 1877. Over the decades more rules and laws for animal protection were introduced. In 1962 came the final law on animal protection. Because of programs to catch, neuter and replace stray dogs there was no need for kill-shelters. Over the years the relationships between owners and dogs also changed. Working dogs became pets. You just do not kick out a family friend as easily as you'd get rid of an employee.
@emremokoko2 жыл бұрын
@@williamgeardener2509 i do not really think that. But the way the dutch policies are explained really gives that impression. I am certain there is much more that happened.
@williamgeardener25092 жыл бұрын
@@emremokoko No, no kill shelters, no hunting and shooting stray dogs, no poisoning them or any other "inhumane" action to solve the problem. Just policies and programs to get rid of a problem. You underestimate how crazy Dutch people can become when the authorities take drastic measures to solve a problem. That is why Dutch farmers receive so much support now that the government has decided that there are too many farmers and therefore many farmers have to be made redundant, whether they like it or not.

There's numbers on the outside of the trains. One and two so you know where first class is before stepping inside. Inside it's usually a different seat colour and seperated by a glass door or different wagon.
