I've seen this movie at least a dozen times since I saw it in the theater way, way back in 1980. It has quite possibly the greatest stunt driving ever.

James Cameron big movies were all scored by Brad Fiedel or James Horner, EXCEPT for this one - this was done by Alan Silvestri, whose other notable credits were Predator and Back to the future trilogy.

The first movie is the world building and the setup for the second one, so both are great in their own way. In my opinion the second one, is musically more appealing. Great reaction by the way

I absolutely love this movie. While there are some funny scenes, I have never considered this movie to be a comedy. I would call it more of a crime drama. The cast is incredible. The tension of the story is intriguing. The music is perfect for this movie.

Dune has an interesting history with adaptations, for good or ill 😅 There is a version of Dune from 1984, with singer Sting playing a role and music composed by rock band Toto. It's bizarre and strangely beautiful despite suffering the limitations of the decade. Before the 84, experimental filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky attempted to get a version made with Mick Jagger as Feyd-Rautha and Salvador Dali as the Emperor (both characters are in Pt2 😉). The pre-production ultimately collapsed, but the documentary Jodorowsky's Dune discusses the ordeal and shows how so much work from the pre-production rippled through sci-fi for decades, including the 21/24 (though this comparison must be applied in hindsight as the documentary was years before)

I think I like Lawrence of Arabia better visually and musically. I'm not much of a gamer, but I suspect that gamers experience the vehicle visuals as ordinary. The didgeridoo inspired music from Dune is lovely, though.

42:08 this kind of science fiction movies and are actually called "space opera"... 😆 "Space opera is a subgenre of science fiction that emphasizes space warfare, with use of melodramatic, risk-taking space adventures, relationships, and chivalric romance. Set mainly or entirely in outer space, it features technological and social advancements (or lack thereof) in faster-than-light travel, futuristic weapons, and sophisticated technology, on a backdrop of galactic empires and interstellar wars with fictional aliens, often in fictional galaxies."

This is a very dense story and not everything is spelled out in the movie as it is in the book. For instance if you have a shield and your shot by a laser gun both the shield and the laser gun will explode in a small nuclear explosion. So shields and lasers are used sparingly. The same technology that allows the Barron to float allows the soldiers to do so also. But if they use it in the desert it will draw a sandworm. 10:44 Jessica is not feeling what Paul is feeling, instead she's remembering going through this test herself and fears for Paul's life. She remembers feeling the pain and that is what she's experiencing. No one has magical powers in this movie. The closest you come to that is Paul seeing the future. But this is an ability that most humans have to a tiny degree. The Bene Gesserit instead have developed their minds to be able to control their bodies. The voice for instance is a tone of command developed by the Bene Gesserit over thousands of years. It's not magical it's more like you yelling at your dog and having it respond instantly without thinking. You say the words in a certain tone and most people will respond without thinking. the Bene Gesserit have control of their bodies They can choose whether or not to become pregnant and the sex of the child they're going to bear. They can neutralize most poisons again this is just control of their bodies. They can read your intentions, tone of voice, and body language So well It is almost like they read your mind, Again these are just skills honed over thousands of years. They created the religion on Dune to match the skills that the Kwisatz Haderach are predicted to have. The predictions are for the most part things that this super being will be able to do. Again not magical except for seeing the future. They make the predictions vague enough so that you can interpret them in different ways, They say he will be born in the south but actually what happens is he is reborn. Then people can interpret it as coming true. This movie is about not trusting charismatic leaders because they will always do what's best for them and bring harm to the population in general.
