It's really hard to argue with cardboard for sustainability purposes. The major issue with it is that it's not very durable (more durable than the corn foam packing peanuts) and that cardboard still winds up looking like cardboard in ways that foam doesn't, even if the foam is being left as a flat surface you're not texturing or even if you're coating it with a printed texture. I've clearly got no problem with a printed texture (the kind of stuff Crooked Staff is doing-though I prefer how Kris's sci-fi terrain is coming out to his dungeon terrain. Might need extra cereal boxes and/or Bardic Broadcast oats boxes to glue up the edges of the cardboard? In my case I might have to bite the bullet and just use foam. I'd rather use the card, but I need everything I'll carry (which includes medical kit and a 4.5lb laptop because I can't spare the cash for a suitable tablet just now) to be 15lb or less for current medical issue reasons. Hope that changes, but if I build the kit I'm going to use, I won't stop when conditions improve. So in my case for multiple reasons the question is how to I need as little of it as possible, for multiple reasons?

The question is, if you rolled the die nineteen more times, would you really get a natural 20 eventually?

You don't HAVE to fire clay, so everyone knows. It's not as hard as fired ceramic, but you can just sculpt it and leave it out to dry and it gets bone hard after a while. Just don't soak it. Or do, if you need to reuse it
@CardboardCleric
@CardboardCleric 2 ай бұрын
How have I never thought of that? It almost feels like you are tempting me to make clay dungeon tiles .... Can you paint it if it is not fired?
@kiara-kh7nh
@kiara-kh7nh 2 ай бұрын
You can! That would probably mess with your ability to reuse it, but its totally doable!

I have been making my own character sheets since i started playing in third edition, I don't use official 5e, always type up my own stuff. So I super approve of what you've done here, Looks like it's working for you. I do a lot of running for my group, and I house rule away enough things that parts of your sheet would be unnecessary, and other parts like currently how much exhaustion you have are non-existent. I also didn't see saving throws anywhere.
@CardboardCleric
@CardboardCleric 2 ай бұрын
Really appreciate that. The saving throws are just about the main modifiers and the best part of doing in a spreadsheet is that is very easily customizable to each characters needs.

I believe character sheets should be split in quarters. -Skills -Roleplay -Feats -Inventory That way you can use the army map technique to keep the sheet folded small and still easily access all the information.

Hello. I am wondering what the specific cardboard type you are useing is. I am from Denmark and i am struckling to find the right material for DIY builds such as this one.

The material I like to use is called finnboard and commonly used by architects. If you have a decent art supply store around you they should have it. Hope you can find some!

The kid crafting reminds me of salt dough. Could roll out and shape tiles, walls, windows/doors, maybe even piles of treasure. Just need to bake but they're paintable.

This is a really fun idea! At the end of the day, I think they're a bit too unstable and colorful for me to use as terrain, but I could potentially see using clusters of the green ones for bushes or something. My go-to terrain solution actually happens to be eco-friendly though, and that is wooden Jenga blocks. They're perfect for quickly laying out a room, and their neutral color helps them function as a stand-in for everything from dungeon walls to tree trunks.
@CardboardCleric
@CardboardCleric 3 ай бұрын
The Jenga blocks are such a clever idea! And I think you're right about using these corn puffs as scatter terrain. Maybe even quickly lay out a river on a neutral battle map.

You’ve got some good stuff here, I personally don’t like horizontal sheets but the concept is good. The bit at the bottom for all the random carrying capacity jump distance dark vision was inspired, it’s stuff you should write down since it always catches people by surprise when it comes up. I also liked your speed box, but it should cover more; walking then flying as the most common, then swim speed as a rare but often granted ability, then hover and burrow as the rarest forms (I only know 1 subclass that grants a hover speed but that covers all the bases). I think the passive skills, stealth (rare), investigation (uncommon), perception (common) should be up with the rest of the skills instead of banished to the bottom, something which always bothered me about the base sheet since it throws new players for a loop when I ask for passive perception and they just never bothered to write it because it was out of the way.

Thank you for the detailed perspective. Even if you don't like horizontal sheets the beauty of it is that it's completely customizable and you could implement all those changes. Happy adventuring

I've made a few changes for my personal use I added a formula in the cell for the modifier, that calculates it from the score. RoundDown((cell-10)/2) I also made a named range on each page called "ProfBonusX" I also found the symbol for a circle that's filled in, and made a check for "if proficient, add proficiency to score" I then found a third symbol for expertise, and made a check for "if expert, add proficiency again" I also moved some stuff around, so that the passive perception and insight, as well as other stuff that would go near it, are closer to the ability score stuff. finally, I laid it out so that things that reset on a short rest were together, and things on a long rest together. if I ever laminate it, or put in a plastic pocket, all the bits are then together.
