I have the same problem with both my live wells on my Carolina Skiff. Basically the same setup and I know its a air lock that's causing my issue. Tried rerouting the hoses so that there were no dips or low spots, but that still didn't help much. Now I'm going to try this vent setup as you did and see if that works. Mine goes to a "T" that splits off to the back and forward live bait wells, and if I break the connections at the "T" (pull the hose off) that pump works just fine. I can see the water in the hose that's causing the air lock so the vent should work just like pulling the hose off the "T". Thanks for the idea, it looks like a simple enough fix.

What did you do with the crankcase tube that ran the OEM pump? Did you just leave it venting to atmosphere? I’ve got a built 670 with a 34mm Mikuni flatslide. I’m running an electric fuel pump along with the OEM pulse pump. I’d like to just run directly from the electric pump to the carb, but I’m not sure what to do with the crankcase tube. Any advice?

Make sure the info is correct, there are only a few Texas lakes that enforce the rule of retaining ALL crappie caught and not ALL. Also, to help in the future and save a heartache, lose the Crappie sleeve. Local game wardens use a Check-It-Stik to measure length as the sleeves on alot of occasions are off as much as a 1/4 inch. And depending on their mood that day, whether you get a ticket or not. Ask me how I know from a few years back 🤣 Luckily I got a warning, with a 9 3/4" fish that measured 10" with the sleeve. Good video and tightlines! 🤘😎

This is what I done to mine. Replaced the carb with a true mikuni slide carb 38mm. Installed an electric pump just as you did, only I installed an adjustable fuel regulator so it doesn't flood the carb with excess pressure. I also used a relay to power pump instead of powering pump directly through key switch. This will help key switch last allot longer plus prevent smoking wires (fire hazard). This is how big industrial motors are ran. Use small power to control big power. In the case of boats it is dc power which is harder to switch than ac power. Enjoyed your video. Always something to learn. Thanks.

As to the pump and regulator, I used an old Holley canister or in line pump I had from an old hot rod I had years ago. Not a racing one, just one that would feed a quadrajet. I had an old napa brand reg from back in the day with a pressure port for a pressure gauge. It is regulated to around 2 psi. Your set up may have different requirements depending on carb, cam, heads, etc. My engine is NOT stock by any means. It operates from 5 to 6000 rpm but it's still only two cylinders and too much pressure overcomes the float seat and will flood the carb. I'm sure you can find these two items at any AutoZone, advance, O'Reilly's, etc. You will probably have to experiment with your engines pressure requirements at idle and WOT to see how much it needs to keep engine from starving from fuel. Here's a freebie. Mount the fuel pump as close to your fuel tank as possible, as some pumps don't like to much suction head. Obviously take all precautions to make it intrinsically safe. (No sparks.) I would give you guys some part numbers but they're are all wore off. 🤷 Good luck and most of all have some fun.
