Foot work, play with body, turn shoulder, random on robot and covering with forehand. Strengthen quads. Learn placement from anywhere to anywhere.

Had some coaching recently with Matt Ware. He noticed straight away the grip was incorrect. Index finger too high Took some weeks to get used to it but Amazing how my game has improved ! 🏓😊👍

Thanks to tabletennis my groin, nerve pain is slowly going away. Physio gives a load of stretches that don't work. Just play table tennis :-)

This video was and still is so inspirational to me. I first saw this back in 2014. I was working in the coffee industry as a barista, and knew that I had to get out to make more money. So I decided to self learn (I was poor) software engineering (web development). It was very tough, often get frustrated/angry/defeated and get lazy. But this video was one of the things that showed up at the right moment and was one of the things that gave me the motivation to keep going. Eventually I got into tech in 2016. I loved the background song a lot, so I saved it and listened to it every so often. And each time I listen to it, I would like: "oh yeah, that guy who spent a year learning ping pong." This video has a different layer of meaning now because I recently learned and practice a new idea: "focus on the journey, not the destination". Some of the goals take a long ass time, and each time you look at the destination, you will end up getting reminded of the fact that you are still not there, you still don't have what you are after, and that's painful. But by moving your attention to the journey, or focus on the process/system and keep going, you can avoid that pain and can actually make a lot of progress. You can easily experience that idea by running for a long distance: if you keep on thinking about the destination, you gonna get frustrated by the fact that it's far away, but if you just focus on the journey, and keep on putting one foot in front of another, by the time you know it, you have made a lot of progress. I am gonna need to save this video as a reminder to keep my focus grounded on the journey. Thanks buddy, hope you get whatever you are after.

I started table tennis at the age of 38, now 39 years old. Gradually increased the amount of training that I do, but have recently started to feel that the physical aspect is hindering me. I've stayed quite fit for most of my life, last 15 years I have been training 5 times a week just general fitness (bodyweight exercises and lifting in the gym), running, skiing, swimming and biking. In these 15 months I have been playing table tennis, I have worked a bunch on immitating this chinese forehand where I try to push off the ground in the hip rotation to increase the upwards movement of the arm. Bought a robot to work on the basic movements. I am wondering if there are any resources for adult players outside of youtube and the research one can do online. I signed up for a club and managed to get the coaches attention within the first year of playing in the "adult hobbyist group" and have now moved on to train with the younger players ... but this type of training is possibly different from what is ideal for me at age 39. My playing style seems to be turning into control player that is using the reach advantage vs. younger players. Any advice on how to proceed, because I am thinking of taking a pause to get to train more varied and prevent getting injured. Its also quite difficult mentally to put so much effort into it and still not being able to perform in tournaments ... my ranking has still not gotten into the positive side of where my coach put me at the start.

I am doing a similar project on my channel, only maybe not as organized. I am about 15 months into me starting playing table tennis from never having played it before. Feeling a bit stuck, but trying to keep motivated and push on!

This is such an interesting video. I have a similar project going at age 38, but I think its possible that I have improved more in my first year of table tennis than what is shown here, which gives me loads of confidence in what I am doing.

Cool! I am one year into table tennis as an adult learner (38). Are there more resources for the methods you used or a sort of log for your training? I am thinking of doing a 1-year-video of how I progressed.

Great job bro👏👏 one thing that I can see that you could improve on, is that you look very unnatural when playing forehand and backhand topspin, it's almost like you are trying to force it to much, instead of just flowing through the ball, but idk it's been 7 years since this was posted so u have probs sorted it out alreadt

I wonder if you could use the tt-flex racket on a regular gym pulling equipment that gives a consistent resistance instead of a band that increase resistance further into the stroke

Of course unfortunately table tennis also requires someone who is willing to pratice with you or teach you. So not everyone gets the chance to improve that much in a year as an adult.
