7:25 You say the sulfur pulls the oxygen out of the water. As far as I know the sulfur is pretty much inert without the bacterial intermediary. What happens is that bacteria will preferentially use oxygen, so in a simple flow through system in the first section of the media bacteria are using the oxygen, not the sulfur itself. I'd be curious what effect the increased sulfate ion concentrations might have in the tank because your essentially trading nitrate ions for sulfate ions. Over time those sulfates will accumulate.

Does a sulfate reactor deplete oxygen levels? Therefore reducing ph?
@siggyincr744720 сағат бұрын
A sulfur reactor needs an anoxic environment inside, but that shouldn't affect O2 levels in the tank. As an aside, reduced oxygen doesn't lower pH. Increased CO2 decreases pH, but that's independent of O2 levels.
@unreefer4 күн бұрын
Since you made a pump for Hydros for your sulfur reactors. Can we please get 1/4" flow sensors on the Hydros? It would help tell if its clogged which is very common. This flow sensor will notify you first before the orp shoots up. Possibly even see a general flow rate. I own many sulfur reactors. This is what is preventing me from completely switching from apex which has a 1/4" flow sensors and Hydros does not.

I’ve been using a sulfur denitrator on my overstocked tank for years and the NO3 went from 40 to 10. I now see amazing colors on my acros. Once dialed in it takes no effort. My advice is go slow and keep a close eye/nose on the smell. I appreciate you both highlighting this tool. I don’t think it gets the attention it deserves.

Never thought of going this way, don't have that many issues keeping up with nitrates. Would like to see Aquabiomics and ICP data on a tank before and after hooking up one of these reactors.

What do you mean "white lights grow coral and blues are just for looks"? Everything I've read said that most corals grow best under blue,. violet and red light, as white light is filtered out by the sea water. Are you saying everying we've been told about lighting for corals is wrong? I also don't understand your comments about hallides. 20k Halides are also tuned for blue and red spectrums, they are not white like you seem to believe even though they look white to the eye. It's also been shown for decades now that a mix of white and blue Fluorescent lamps are just as effective as halides. What scientific study proves the design of your new lights that you are discussing?

I'm excited to start swapping Kamoer X2SR units out for these; my gripes with the Kamoer units has never been mechanical in nature, it's always been the programming and the app ecosystem. They're very unreliable to get connected to home networks and keep connected, and unfortunately the app is barely-translated Chinese garbage, so it'll be nice to have the Hydros platform to control them with.

This are really exciting news. Can't wait to hear and read more about this new light system you're working on. I think that the moon light feature is a completely awesome feature that brings a new level to the hobby. I wish that it can be possible set with the actual moon faces based on the location you're at, example (full moon cycles through the month and the day it happen on our sky) That can be really cool and obviously based on your light on off schedules. I like what's happening here, BRS took some products from coralvue by becoming the sole distributor of products like maxspect and aquaforest then BRS cut the hydros line. I was waiting for them to be bought by brs but it seems like coralvue is holding strong. Keep up the innovation guys. That said, im old and i still like my t5's. They just work and dont need updates every year. I have an AI prime fuge in my stand but its cheaply made. In 3 years ive had to replace the power supply twice
@TrevorHiller16 күн бұрын
I think with all the animosity towards BRS as of late, and hydros rapid firing well thought out products that people have been holding out for they are in a strategic position to overtake Neptune Systems if they don’t come up with some serious product updates. I just made the switch to hydros after some really poor product quality issues and abysmal customer service by Neptune made me lose faith in them to monitor my next tank. I think Hydros is only a few short years from passing Neptune in being the dominant controller system. Especially without Ryan pushing apex gear on KZfaq. Neptune has been sitting around cashing in on their former glory while Hydros has been silently planning a massive attack in the background. Hydros knows what they are doing and I’m here for the showdown! 😂

15ft is 5 meters, at 5 meters below the surface of the water, nearly all red light is gone (only about 30% of the red light at the surface remains), there's still a pretty decent amount of green and yellow (about 60% of the green remains, about 50% of the yellow remains), but blue and violet (400-475) are the dominant colors (nearly 80-90% of the available blue and violet light at the surface remains)... I don't see how that's "Anything but blue". Our eyes are terrible at picking up blue light as opposed to green and yellow which it's excellent at, so while our eyes do not perceive the blue spectrum at 15 feet because our peak sensitivity "boosts" the available yellow and green light, when measured with scientific instrumentation blue and violet are the dominant spectrum...

Hydros product suite is better engineered at every level but at an even better pricepoint. I don't work for them but I love that there's still competition.
