Unfortunately you can’t Datamosh on newer versions of Avidmux, it needs to be 2.5.4. I have a link in the description that should take you to a download page for Avidmux 2.5.4!

@@AvnoArts If you’ve downloaded 2.5.4, you should open the ZIP and then it should have instructions for installing, and then you should be good to go!

This is a very common issue if your video is too long/dense. Try using a shorter piece of footage, that is in a nice condensed file format. If you still have trouble, I’d recommend just trying it with the footage linked in the description of this video, or my previous I-Frame video!

It’s just a very old program. As far as I’m aware, it’s no malware. I’ve been using it for years, and you can see a lot of people in the comments of this video and my previous Datamoshing video who have had no reported issues with the software!

Hey! You copy the P-Frames, as they are the ones that contain the pixel movement data for that frame:)

You may have the wrong version of avidmux installed, that’s the most likely cause of this problem. You may have also interpreted the tutorial wrong, as you can’t change a frame type in avidmux, only remove them, and copy and paste them. I hope this helps, but if not just give me another reply:)

From my experience you can use multiple file formats within Avidmux, I believe I’ve used .mp4 before. If your file format does work, you can always use the online converter I have linked in the description (or any encoder of your choice) to convert the file!

There is unfortunately no way to datamosh in avidmux 2.8. I would recommend following the link in my description to download avidmux 2.5.4. This will allow you to datamosh!

@@skarn4117 If your having trouble getting I frames to show up, it may be that the first frame from your second clip isn’t different enough from your previous clip to define itself as an I-Frame, in this case maybe try 2 different clips, but if your set on those clips, add 1 frame that’s completely different between those 2 clips in your original editor to trick avidmux! I hope this helps, but if not let me know, and I’ll see what I can do!

This is likely because the 2 shots your trying to Datamosh are to similar. I would suggest trying with 2 definitively different clips to get the hang of the process. After that, if you would still like to use the original clips, I would recommend adding a single brightly coloured frame between the 2 clips. When you’re Datamoshing, this will be the frame you then remove! Hope this helps, let me know how you get on!

Can you convert the AVI to h.264? You should be able to do this on the online converter I have linked in the description, or just exporting it through a traditional editor (prem, Final Cut, davinci, media encoder)

using the online converter i converted it to a mp4 with the 1920, 1080 Full HD 25p, h.264. This is the same present i sued on DaVinci resolve. This time when i click No it does not crash but still displays a green screen.@@ShaunRayEdits

I use various different video editors to combine my original clips, sometimes it’s Final Cut, sometimes it’s Premiere Pro, and sometimes on occasions it’s after effects! It doesn’t matter which editor I use to combine the clips, as long as they are in a h.264 file format!

This is an idea I have experimented with in the past! I found that if I exported the clip I wanted to mosh, and have the clip I wanted to take the P-frame information from added to the end of the clip in my regular editor. When in avidmux I could copy and paste a P-frame from that second clip, and splice it into the first within avidmux. Although I got some very funky clips, sometimes it would simply freeze the video or just not work. But on occasion I got mixed results. I found that aesthetically, the original look where the pixels continued in their original path was the most natural, and audiences seemed to prefer that look as their brains processed roughly what was happening. So when using different motion, it led to a rather confusing and sometimes odd looking glitch, I found that I couldn’t just carelessly apply the motion from other videos to my own; you need to find the right motion to compliment your clip, which requires lots of experimenting! I hope this helps out! Let me know if that all makes sense, and if you do manage to use P-Frames from other videos, please show me! I’d love to see it!

​@@ShaunRayEdits okay word! i have a bg video which is an abstract textural, and then I wanna take motion from a video of someone dancing, mask it, and then use the motion data to make the abstract texture move...but yeah i could see the idea working better with a still image keeping some parts of the original video (like for instance, the face of the person dancing) that might work better than just applying the motion directly. maybe I could do a weird bump map or other kind of displacement effect!

Yeah links don't work anymore I believe it has to be listed in the description or have a full video like genuinely attached to that short so you can just go to it without having to scroll through
