Currently, the only way to cope with this is to create a story (in your mind, on paper, as an animation, movie, game, etc.) featuring both you and the character, just like this one. I call this stage 1. Now, imagine this: It's theoretically possible to actually spend your life with the character-not right now, but eventually. If we set aside ethical concerns, advancements in AI, Virtual Reality, and augmented reality (AR) could allow you to bring any character to actual life (in digital form). You could create an environment where you and the character could live, interact, and experience everything your mind can imagine. With AR and the Internet of Things (IoT), interactions could extend into the real world. The character could appear in your home, engage in conversations face to face, through phone calls and video chats, and even participate in daily activities, making their presence feel real. For instance, they could remind you of appointments, help you practice new skills, or simply be there for emotional support. This integration of virtual and real-world interactions would elevate the relationship beyond what is possible even in current long-distance human relationships. And that's just stage 2. At stage 3, with a significantly better understanding of bioengineering, humanity could design and create any type of person based on your desires and expectations (again, setting aside ethics). This includes their looks, personality, gender, identity, memories, and even preset relationships from birth. It's all in the cells, and cells are malleable to some degree. With enough effort, time, and the correct ethical approach, everything I’ve mentioned is achievable. I want to emphasize that my intention is not to condone creating someone who is in some sense less than human because they were created by us for us. I'm simply presenting what is possible by setting aside moral and ethical aspects for a clearer picture. In reality, we would/will have to really think this through first. For example, what if we create a perfect breathing, thinking, living replica of our fictional crush we so much love, but they actually don't love us back? You can add love for our person into their mind, but if they aren't compatible, it will be just like it is with unhappy, soon-to-be-divorced marriages today. Or what if they do, but we created them in a totally different world than the one they think they were from? From their perspective, it would be like going to sleep in their respective home and waking up here without the rest of their original family and friends. Like I said, you can add to their memory new relationships with you and your friends, but wouldn't you miss your current friends and family if they suddenly disappeared and were replaced with new ones? The implications are very complex.

At least you didn't make a family with it and got married for 7 years before realizinf it isn't real.

Really random thing to mention, but people who want to meet their comfort characters. I really recommend reality shifting! I got to meet the boys from the game Obey me, and am getting close to shifting to the amazing digital circus. You can go anywhere you want and stay as long as you want. Even stay there permanently if you wish or go to multiple different realities ^^ You dont even need to fully believe.
