@@ryanhale5010 thanks man. So I’m using a WA84 mic into a Neve 1073. Normally I’d go through an LA2A as well for a touch of compression but I didn’t hear just to remove that variable from the comparison. If you want some help on recording acoustic guitar I made a video specifically on that… it’s on my channel and here’s the link kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kLmfi5B6qK6cpaM.htmlsi=fWa0-x5xHWn3HJj5

I have this Harley Benton and I really like it but have to admit the sound of the Taylor is better. However, apart from the price it's not a like for like comparison as the Taylor is a spruce/rosewood combination versus an all mahogany combination. Regardless of maker I would not an all mahogany guitar to sound the same as a spruce/rosewood guitar.

@@jontystoz43 yeah the tone woods absolutely make a difference to the sound, however that will then factor into the price of why the Taylor is so much more expensive. Even now though, it still shocks me how amazing the HB is for the money!

Excellent comparison. Both demos were impressive. GA is very impressive, but the Neve was of high quality. Excellent performance 👍👍

@adamfiascoVEVO 17 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yes the differences between the units are pretty huge. A few people have commented about the difference in level which is a totally fair point and in hindsight I probably should’ve matched them better before exporting. However I think this highlights an important difference… Both units had their gain set to the same level on the preamp during recording so it’s pretty obvious the Neve runs hotter than the GAP. Also you don’t need it to be perfectly level matched to hear the Neve has far bigger lows and low mids than the GAP! The GAP is a great unit and very good value for money. But imo the sound and build of the Neve is far superior.

What I'm hearing is you're a professional, you have pro gear, you mix in a pro environment, and you know how to get what you're looking for from your studio. From watching a few other videos what I'm getting is these are really more for folks like me that are in the hobbyist/prosumer category where we have some decent gear mixed in with a less than ideal mixing environment. I have a couple of Mackies and some desktop speakers I use for mixing, but it's in my home office so not an ideal environment by any means. I'll often find myself carving or boosting frequencies that I can visually see in my EQ but can't hear the changes until I go to other rooms. I think I'm going to give these a 30 day try and see if they can highlight room variations enough so I don't find myself spending hours testing on various systems only to find that when I go to the car it sounds like garbage!
@adamfiascoVEVO
@adamfiascoVEVO 18 күн бұрын
This is pretty much it exactly! I wasn’t really getting the benefit from mixing on these vs in my own room. Sure I could learn them but I don’t really need to! For anyone who travels about a lot or has a less than ideal monitoring environment though these would be absolutely incredible and a no brainer!

Neve level was higher and not well matched
@adamfiascoVEVO
@adamfiascoVEVO 19 күн бұрын
Both preamps had the gain set to the same level but the Neve definitely runs hotter and has a bigger bump in the low mids whereas the GAP is more scooped. In hindsight I definitely could have matched the levels better in the video clip and I’ll definitely do that in future, but they were set the same on the way in which is the main thing and I think highlights an important difference between the two units. Regardless you can clearly hear the differences in sound between them.

Hey dude no problem glad you found the video helpful. Yeah the CL1B is an ace unit and sounds amazing. Kinda similar vibe to LA2A as they’re both opto comps, the the CL1B has way more control when it comes too attack and release. More modern sounding too. The LA2A is super smooth, warm and quite vintage sounding. Can’t go far wrong with either.

There's so much content, but no context! Some things work but only in certain contexts, yet this is rarely, if ever, mentioned. Different genres. Different stages of experience need different types of advice.
@adamfiascoVEVO
@adamfiascoVEVO Ай бұрын
This! Exactly! Certain things in one context can sound amazing and work brilliantly, yet in another situation/context sound like crap. Just like I demonstrated with the tape saturation… pushing a snare into tape can sound epic. However pushing the same level on the mix bus sounds mushy and muddy. A clean pop mix might require zero tape saturation at all. Different contexts require completely different approaches!
