Sound in video is quite good. Would prefer this to some official releases by pipe band competitions, sometimes the recording is muted and lacks clarity.

Thanks. I captured the sound separately using a Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone, sitting on a backpack on the ground. I wasn't expecting such a good result.

What was on the swan necks of their pipe bags? Was it to try to keep the reed temp stable from warmup to actual step-off??
@stephenarsenault8859 Жыл бұрын
I think it's more generally to keep it stable whether it is in the shade or in direct sunlight. As you may know, the reed which plays the melody is at the end of that neck. It's pretty conceivable that air passing through there could heat up more than air going to the drones, which isn't ideal. Scottish Power had these on their pipes at the World Pipe Band Championships this year, and they sounded great!

Any Peel medley available ?
@stephenarsenault88592 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I only got a partial audio clip of Peel's medley, and missed Toronto's altogether. I believe Toronto started their medley before the MSR competition was over. I arrived part way through Peel's medley and did get a decent audio clip though: drive.google.com/file/d/15nLRao1DO6NfCgrDmx3L3-4Eaj_PFiis/view?usp=sharing

Unbelievable quality recording. What are you using?
@stephenarsenault88592 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the feedback. I used an old DSLR on a tripod to get this footage, and a smartphone to capture the audio. It was my first time filming something live like this, and I've really surprised myself with how good some of the shots turned out. @@stephenarsenault8859 These videos are among the best of seen especially with the audio quality as well (And i've seen a LOT of them. lol). The audio was so clear in picking up pipes, mid-section and the snares (which is rare from the side of the circle you were on, opposite the drums).
@stephenarsenault88592 жыл бұрын
I really appreciate the feedback. I definitely took some inspiration from how they film the World Pipe Band Championships. I had my camera recording (mono) audio as well, but the quality was really lacking. My phone was setup to record stereo audio and I placed it on top of my backpack which was on the ground, so the phone was only a half foot or so off the grass. I've noticed at the worlds they have microphones at about the same height around the circle. Perhaps it helps with catching all the instruments. I'll definitely want to do this again. Too bad the season is coming to a close!

What program on your phone do you use to record the audio?
@stephenarsenault88592 жыл бұрын
@@glennamackay-johnstone2624 I use Samsung Voice Recorder, which allows me to select stereo or mono. Pretty basic app, but I like it. play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sec.android.app.voicenote
