What scale mode is Uli Roth using? it sounds like E Phrygian?
@StephLeGratteux
@StephLeGratteux Күн бұрын
The chords are Am, F and G, so it's mostly in A minor (same notes than E phrygian though), with a discreet touch of A harmonic minor (same notes than E phrygian dominant) when he's using a G#.

@@StephLeGratteux Uli Roth lands on the F# note on the A string 8th fret the beginning scale run, the F# note, where is the F# note coming from in A minor or A harmonic minor?

@@StephLeGratteux At time 0.10 he lands on the F note to end the scale run at the beginning part which the F note is "NOT the Root note" of the chord or chord tone. I'm not sure why he is landing ending on the F note, maybe to give a modal tonality? Most phrases will end on the root note of the chord but Uli Roth ends on the F note which is not the root note of the chord

Hi Steph! I love both (studio and Tokyo) version. I don't mean only the guitar playing, but the whole fantastic song. Imo it's the best song on the whole Tokyo Tapes. Maybe together with Fly to the Rainbow. (And my special fav, Top of the bill.) Thank you for the upload!!

Thank you so much for your amazing lessons! Any chance you could do lesson on catch your train ( all solos) as there is not one to be found on entire internet. There's a few good covers and one lousy tab that I'm trying to work with but a lesson would really make it go so much easier. Definitely would be forever grateful if you could do this.

1-The credits of the song say : Vocals / rhythm guitar : Izzy. 2-From an interview Slash gave in 1992: "On the Illusion albums, Izzy Stradlin is credited with rhythm guitar while you're credited with lead and rhythm. How does that break down any given track?" Slash's answer: "It's simple. Izzy, even on the songs he wrote, put on a very bare-bones guitar part -- just basic chords. And sometimes, very rarely, a single-note melody. He has ONE guitar solo on Illusion I -- at THE BEGINNING OF 'BACK OF BITCH' " 3-The guitar tone is obviously Slash's.
