People don’t listen to what the factories tell you half tons are not for towing big heavy trailer safely upgrade to a three-quarter ton or better. They’re just better suited for this kind of environment and yes, that 10 speed sucks you gonna either change on it or leave it in towing mode, or get an older one with the speed

We were just there yesterday. Been there in a rental mini van, for door sub compact and yesterday in a Nissan Rogue. Definitely an easy drive (but bumpy) if you take your time and understand vehicle dynamics. But I will say that when the sun is out is it a most magical beaches with bathrooms, running water and shaded areas to eat. The rock mountain ledges behind the beach are awesome, too. We go out there every time we visit Kauai.

An F150 like you had is able to tow about 12,000 pounds, the Tacoma’s only capable of about 6000 pounds if correctly equipped. You will end up putting a heavier strain on this truck than the F150.

Many have died at Chimney Top Rock, and just as many falling off the sides of the ridge when they go off the trail down those little side trails you can see the whole way. Staying on trail and inside the railings, it's safe enough to bring kids though.

It's a petrified tree stump. That's exactly what they look like. There use to be giants 2 miles tall. Giant animals we call Dinosaurs. Giant trees we call mountains. There's so called mountains that look like the faces of fossilized giants. People just don't want to expect it because it's really scary lol imagine seeing a 2 mile tall giant. Life doesn't make accidents lol it's obvious and right in front of our faces. We just don't want to expect it.

I feel for you but seriously? Having towed a 2106 DS for 6 years with a 2017 Tacoma longbed, I’m telling you right now you’re over payload and probably well over payload. We just moved up to a much larger tow truck. Get rid of half that stuff or reposition it inside the trailer. And weights?? Seriously? Read the owners manual on the Tacoma on towing. DO NOT tow in 5th or 6th gear. Tow in S4 and if the transmission starts to hunt between 3rd and 4th, downshift to S3 and slow down to keep the rpm’s manageable. OR, you’ll cook another transmission!

What is everyone talking about. First of all my truck broke down left me in the middle of no where. It's not like I could just go home and spend months looking for a new truck. How would I get my truck and camper home in the first place. I was living in the back of Aamco for crying out loud. We had to pick out the best truck possible. That was the Tacoma and because our F150 with tow package had a high payload we through everything in the back of it. But it's not like we planned on buying a Tacoma in the first place. This was the best course of action for what we were dealing with. It's not like I'm going to be carry that much stuff around in the Tacoma all the time. We had planned on down sizing that is why we bought the No Bo in the first place. We Like Tacoma and wanted one in the future but I guess plans change.

@TheWookie_USN 20 күн бұрын
@@notaboutthedestination5693 I understand that. I was only saying that from 6 years experience towing with a ‘17 Tacoma Off Road longbed you need to make some adjustments based on a 925 lb payload (my door jam sticker). Good luck.

Sorry you didn't like Indian Cave SP. The SP situation in NE is definitely not as good as other states. Some are good, but the pay showers and lack of amenities is pretty much universal. We don't have enough tourists to support all of the parks well, and it seems 90% are RV camping. The real gem in that particular park is hiking and dispersed camping on the trails. A few friends, and an overnight hike in camp back in the woods, is pretty great. They have Adirondacks to camp in, with fire rings, and space for tents. There is also a big Halloween camping tradition, with hayrack rides and campsite decorating, etc. The real takeaway is, don't go for the cave. 😉

I agree with you on both points. Certain trucks like Ford just don't last. We hoped buying it new we would have less headaches but right from the get go we had transmission problems. We also thought that if we drained the transmission fluid and not do a flush we wouldn't have a issue well I guess we striked out on that one too.
@kulieboy319
@kulieboy319 Ай бұрын
The people who service your truck is who ruin your transmission they did a complete fluid flush and got rid of all the old oil and put in new oil and that's where your clutch started slip I have a Chevy Silverado 03 with over 200,000 miles original transmission Towing still pushing still moving on the original transmission all I have done to it is a filter change and replace the fluid that I've lost when I drop the pan did not do a complete fluid flush you need to have old fluid with the grit of the clutch in the fluid to keep your transmission from slipping a lot of people might not understand that transmission shops will not tell you that but that's a little trick of the trade of being a mechanic and knowing what you're supposed to be doing all these transmission

The 10 speed auto is applied to many engines. Good tranny 👍 You gotta use tow haul. The key. Try and stay under 85%, preferably 80% of your max tow and payload #'s on long distance hauls. My V8 Lariat has a #1640 payload, and #10,500 towing. I don't tow nearly that, because I need to drive the truck to work when I get home from camping on vacation.

The 10 speed LOVES to hunt for gears. This is a programming issue. When towing with the 10 speed, you MUST use the Tow/Haul mode to help with this issue. I almost hate to say it, but the 6 speed did better when it comes to picking a gear and staying with it. For reference, I have had both a 2015 and 2021 F150 3.5 Ecoboost.... I tow more now, in the mountains, at high elevation, so I upgraded to an F250....

The Ford transmission has the ability to learn your driving and then compensate for your driving style but it doesn't perform well. There is a way to reset it though back to factory setting. As you stated this is issue with the Ford 10 speed programming plus its shifts so rough between gears.

I have a 2020 f150 5.0 fx4 xlt. I tow a 2021 Grand Design Imagine 2607MK. I have had no problems w mine. Then again I’m not loading down the bed w all kinds of crap. The 10 speed transmissions learn and adapt to your driving style so it isn’t the vehicles problem. I have installed oil catch cans on and air filter. At 60000 with no problems. Then again it had been maintenanced properly. With everything you were carrying in the bed and the weight of the camper you should have a 3/4 ton. Good luck w a midsize Toyota.

Store some of the things that you have in the back of your F150 in the RV so you can keep the payload down on the Tacoma. Smaller Trucks do better towing than hauling payload. That Toyota Tacoma is a really solid truck. You should have no problems with that one. I wish you safe travels. 😊

My recommendation for towing long distance with any type of camper, boat, towing vehicles etc etc is to go with a 250 or in othe makes 2500. Better to have the extra towing capacity then get too close to your max towing capacity. And I’ve heard all the 3/4 ton trucks are made better than all the half tons. Yes more $ for gas but I’d happily pay that than 8000$+ in repairs. I’d go half tons for cruisers and 3/4 Tons and up for towing. Guess it’s all up to your preference and experience and if you’ve been educated about towing

You don't need a larger truck. Just know your numbers. If you want a larger trailer that requires a 3/4 or 1 ton, by all means. His 150 should tow that trailer with no issue. Not all of us need 34 footer, or something that requires a dually.
