As a beginner there's things I don't understand, can anybody explain the following? At 1:55 it is said that Bb5 is a good option, it pins the black knight to the king etc. But why is it good if something as simple as black pawn in a6 will make the bishop retreat? And especially considering that everyone warns that moving the same piece twice is not good and it's shows a poor decision?

This is the most helpful video, or guide in general that I've found for this opening, thank you! A lot of the other stuff I can find focuses on teaching the mainlines without a lot of ideas of the concepts, and at my level people aren't really playing the mainline here :P Especially the bits about when to trade the white bishop or not, when to play f4 rather than c4 d4 were SUPER helpful, I knew of those possibilities but had no idea when one was better than the other.

Quick question: Is the bayonet variation of the kings Indian a black or White strategy
@ChessGeek12 күн бұрын
The bayonet is a variation white chooses to play on move 9 (9.b4). Both players have some strategy/plans in this line, like in all lines, but white is the one that chooses to enter into it.

Move order is important. e4 b6 d4, black should play 2... e6 which allows the c8 bishop to come out sooner to pin the c3 knight. If instead, 2.. Bb7, 3. Nc3 e6 white can block the pin with 4. a3. Thus, e6 BEFORE Bb7.
@arv19625 күн бұрын
But what if they first take with the bishop and then take our bishop with the knight? 8:16
@matthewcheung51365 күн бұрын
1:42 Why do we assume white DEFINITELY play bishop to e3? Bishop to f4 looks like a good option and less passive.

Truly excellent video. What do you suggest if, instead of 8. e4, White plays 8. Bf4 with the plan of Rc1 and c5 with play down the c-file (& to weaken d6). Chasing the Bf4 with Nh5 doesn’t help as it just drops back to Be3 & if Black plays Nh5-f6, White responds h3 etc. I’ve had a hard time finding anything clear & convincing against White’s 8. Bf4 even with the help of Stockfish as White still has a lot of flexibility & if Black somehow gets in b5, White after Rc1 etc can just bypass the pawn break with c5 trying to undermine d6 & crack open Black’s central pawn structure. Any insight you can give on how best to combat White’s slippery set up will be most appreciated! Cheers!

Hey I know you haven't really been posting videos lately but if you did do some more masterclass's, then please do the Ruy Lopez, Catalan, or Sicilian with ...2 e6 (or 2... nc6 and then 3...e6), or even all of them if you want lol. But, I know it takes a lot of time so don't feel like you have to.

Could you please do a video on what the 1.Nf3 (reverse KID/Pirc) player should do if Black responds with 1.Nf3 2. g3, b6! 3.Bg2, g6! going into a double Fianchetto set up? Because Black had refrained from occupying the center with any pawns it unclear how white should proceed. I’ve tried b3 to meet the double Fianchetto with my own double Fianchetto & hopefully get black to commit in the center first but it ended up a very drawing symmetrical English, as Black just copied my moves.
