I was a Corrections Officer in New Zealand for 25 years. Young woman . You know nothing. Serco is very corrupt. Start in the homes when they are all children. Children are not born to be criminals. I have to agree with you all about Serco. NO, No, NO to Serco.

It sounds stupid but actually saying 'I'm angry because' really helps.

Personally I reckon, my most empowering "moment" was when I left... I left the security of the home I made with my Mrs and her kids and I found a small room at the Gadsby lodge, in Favona, I had to fend for myself, learn more about responsibility.

I wish Robert Reid would actually do something positive for working people like stand up to improve the lot for for the poor, low wages and inequality rather than just talk and collect his pay

Phil Goff is a failed career politician, who supported Rogernomics. He goes along with anything that will keep him in power but stands for nothing. Heaven help Auckland / Auckland ratepayers if he gets in (only because his name is known)

Palino has policy and offers a 10% rate reduction that has been costed. Goff has the dirty politics team that Len Brown used to take the heat off his scandal and try to shift it onto Palino. This show was a dirty politics hit from start to finish.

Martyn, whilst not taking away from the issue of male violence against women and children. Unpacking male culture of violence, must include the acknowledgment and discussion of all violence, male on male violence. Why is it not?

Nothing you are talking about will actually solve the problem. Toxic masculinity? Men not talking about their feelings isn't the cause of domestic violence, this is just stupid.

A Shaw I don't know. But they are obviously never going to find it if they only look at 1/3rd of the issue. Because what is a family? Typically a mother, a father, and children. They are only looking at "violence against women and children", but women can be just as violent and abusive. If you believe in gender equality, then you have to assume that they are just as capable as men, in good ways and bad. If some ways children can also cause violence. Shouldn't we look at all family members both as victims and as perpetrators and perform a thorough investigation. But we aren't, we assume the woman is the victim, solving nothing. They already have their assumptions, so have all the other govt orgs, so they will never find the actually causes because they aren't looking for them. They already assume they know what it is, hence the rates a family violence is not dropping. We must remember that it is family violence, not men's violence that is the problem.

+A Shaw Toxic masculinity cannot be the cause because that wouldn't explain for the high rates of violence (per capita) in lesbian relationships. There is not just one cause, it's usually a combination of a number of factors. There is plenty of evidence that shows gender is not the cause of violence. meta data of 1700 peer reviewed studies = www.domesticviolenceresearch.org/

It's misleading/false stats that skew the belief that men are the only perpetrators of DV... "1 in 3 women", The latest NZCASS shows 1 in 4 women AND 1 in 6 men have experienced DV from a partner in their lifetime... Men report being the victim of coercive and control more than women. "14 women, 6 men, 10 children", its 13 women, 10 men and 9 children. If it's men causing the DV, why are lesbian relationships reporting the highest rates of DV per capita? There are many studies that show DV is 50/50..... You can not fix a problem by only looking at part of the problem.

Great work, awesome to see more long form interviews like this. Could I recommend some more structure and segmentation within the 28 minute format to keep the pace engaging and more interesting. Well done and thank you.
