I watched Parker in La Rinconada - very interesting visuals of life inside the mines, how/where the gold is found and extracted. The land of "tough men" where women are not permitted to enter the mines because they would cause "bad-luck" and make the gold veins disappear. Sadly, the "blood gold" is purchased by big tech companies/countries and goes "unnoticed" into the every-day products we use. Gallons of mercury is used to trap 'flower gold', which makes the largest portion of gold mined, in the world. Groups of boys are sent into "mining gallleries" where adults cannot fit and are often crushed by rockfalls, most boys are not even identified, or missed. Girls become part of the drunken, drug-fueled existence of these "tough men", as prostitutes. This place does not support life but it IS morbidly fascinating!

To everyone talkin shit about the inhabitants of La Rinconada: The mine is exploited by a US based company called Newmont Mining. They enslave workers with a practice called "cachoreo", which means the workers are basically working for free. That practice allows the company to avoid any obligations in terms of work conditions, environmental issues and human rights. This is all happening with the complicity of the corrupted peruvian government Despite what you might think, peruvian people are very aware of those issues. There are many environmental and human rights activists fighting against those mining corporations... And guess what ? Some of them received death threats, and others unfortunately simply got assassinated. Newmont Mining has been attacked by many governments, in Ghana and Indonesia for instance, for not respecting labour and environmental laws. In conclusion, think about who is the true evil in this situation before you talk shit.

Very interesting and very sad but yet I see happiness there. How do they get food? What powers their electricity and where does it come from? Is there a school there? How do they heat their shelters? Great documentary!

I lived in São Paulo for 3 years. My daughter was born there and my ex wife was born and raised there. Don’t believe a word this guy tells you. São Paulo is not an overrated city. He is hanging around the nicest area Of São Paulo but maybe his attitude will change nice he gets approached with a gun Put to his head and thrown in a trunk and taking to ATM’s to liquidate his account. I told me ex about this video and she laughed and said obvious this guy has no idea what the hell he is talking about.
