I can't believe this scene was added later and was never supposed to be part of the movie. Filmed in a soundstage. Whatever it is worth, my two cents on The Fog. This is just a shameless plug basically: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kNuTq6yh39TcpnU.html

Hard to believe Carpenter didn't actually like this movie all that much. Easily one of his best.

What a story… a poor Leper colony cheated & murdered for gold. Imagine the fear of shipwreck , then seeing the fire, believing it a guide to a safe harbor. A story for the Ages……

How this great movie starts and, how it ends, were both done perfectly!! This is one of those movies that if I saw it playing on tv but had stuff to do, I’d stay home and watch it fully!

John Carpenter is perhaps the most gifted horror movie maker ever. The iconic imagery and cinematography, tension, suggestion, timing and eerily fantastic music score all unmatched IMO. Ironically, the slasher/gore fest video nasties of the 80s by inferior film makers were simply disgusting, not scary. He stands with Friedkin as among the best horror movie directors ever. (Friedkin was another irony, as he never intended to make a horror film, but somehow captured and horrified the public with a masterpiece, The Exorcist)
