Amazing job Ari! Way to finish strong after the fall on beam and still take 4th! I was disappointed Nastia didn’t commentate the meet but it was fun to watch you and Elle do so great. Are you too young to commit to a university yet?

Thank you, yes, I'm so proud of Elle. She is doing amazing this year. I am a sophomore this year and that is when schools and coaches really start watching you and they can begin contacting athletes in June.

I knew she'd be a great gymnast when I saw her pushing that quik Crete. I do some concrete work and pushing 12 bags is impressive. Great video, I'm going to use your design, with a few modifications (mostly because my daughter is less experienced) with a lower bar and a higher bar if she continues to be passionate about it. I'm also going to add some rebar in areas. But your video is awesome and thank you very much. Keep working hard!

Great job! Just wondering: is there any advantage to doing the yurchenko 1.5 versus just a yurchenko full? I thought the start value difference was only 0.05 and you’re having to bend your knees on the vault here (which is a 0.05 or 0.1 deduction). Does it end up canceling out or is there still an advantage?

@ArianaFrechette, did you wrap the PVC with tape? Doesn't look like plain PVC in the video. Also, how wide were each of the holes for the 4x6 posts? In the video it just references 8'4" wide for the overall footprint, not the hole size. As the gymnast using this, do you feel the flex in the bar is similar to what you use at a gym? More/less?

@eforti, yes my dad wrapped it with the white medical tape. My dad can't remember the hole size, he thinks it was 12 inches. I would say there is a little less flex than the bar in the gym, but it does flex some, giving the same feel as set.

I would like to build this, but my husband is worried about the engineering and the force our girls would put on it during giants... one is 100lb and 5'9" - will this hold? and can we go narrower than 8'8" across? are the cables an absolute must? Also, how has it held up outside for the last 3 years (we are in MN)?

@astockton9 Hello, my strap bar has held up well. It is 3 years old now and I still use it. I am 5'0 tall and 105 pounds now and I can still do giants on it. My dad says you could go narrower, he just wanted to make it the same width as a regulation bar set. He says he has seen others without the cables but says the cables give it more support. We are in MN too and it has held up great over the winters. My dad says because of the treated cedar-toned 4x6 post. I hope this helps. 🙂
