I’m a new goalie and do this at night. I’ve altered it just a tiny bit to fit my needs, and cause I’m working for my splits, but this has really helped increase flexibility and makes it really easy to sleep. I know it’s supposed to be before a game or practice, but I usually don’t have the time to do that😅 so thanks for this routine!

@FutureProGoaltendingАй бұрын
Starting with shoulders on cross bar as line rush approaches your blue line. Then depending on what side you either lightly tap glove on glove side post and step out to top of crease. Or on blocker side, lightly tap with shaft of stick and step out well positioned on blocker angle.

You should do a segment for us older goalies on boot straps, yes or no. And if so, what are the pros of behind heal, back cowling hole or mid foot? Thanks again, Foot Long
@FutureProGoaltending2 ай бұрын
I think strapping is going to be a very individual decision after personal trial and error. The older generation reefed down on the heel straps through the back cowlings hole. Our pads had zero rotation on the leg. This seriously restricted our ability to get wide flares and vertical pad faces in the butterfly. If you are going to wear one it should be for a purpose. If it is just flapping loose doing nothing delete it.
@lordmarc78452 ай бұрын
Thanks for the quick reply, I will try removing it but I think my sliding toe lace will cause too much rotation. Will try bungee cord that may work better...thanks.

#selfsponsored I say use the RVH if the puck is below the circle and within 1/2 the distance to the goal. My only issue with the overlap is getting beat backdoor because my outside leg gets caught on the post. I have also had some skilled shooter hit it off the back of my leg when standing next to the post.
@FutureProGoaltending2 ай бұрын
You should never RVH when a man is outside a stick length. People made saves on back door passes for the 90 years preceding the RVH. If you can’t get to back door passes with a slight overlap that is on you. I can pull up 100 clips of NHL goalies making backdoor saves staring from the overlap. You have a better chance of seeing God than a non-NHL player consistently banking pucks off your overlap foot. The FAR more likely outcome when misusing the RVH is the endless shit goals seen every night in the highlights. They aren’t rare. If a goalie kept letting in long flippers I think they would figure it out. For some reason, whether mimicry or ill advised goalie coaching, goalies have just accepted shit RVH goals by shrugging their shoulders and acting like “oh well”. I actually love that goalies keep misusing the RVH. It provides me hours of entertainment. It is just like a guy who keeps stepping on a rake and can’t make the connection why his nose is bleeding.

I wouldn’t worry about the double leg recovery in the beer leagues. Simply fire off 10-12 one leg recoveries with the weaker leg that is the cause of the imbalance, at the start of every skate

Trend? The last few years, I’m seeing more goalies standing straight up with their gloves out front and stick two or more feet off the ice. In games when opponent has possession in the zone. In practices, typically when repositioning. Not just to look over screens. Bad habit or trend? Is this being taught?
@FutureProGoaltending2 ай бұрын
This is being taught and used effectively to conserve energy in non dangerous times. There are many times when the puck is in the zone that the threat is not imminent. Like side board scrums for instance.

I'm in my mid-thirties now and definitely in my prime. A lot more mature and focused than in my twenties and more experienced. The only time I will ever get aggressive with another player now is if they are aggressive with me, basically just to defend myself, but no more looking for trouble. Not once has that ever helped. The opposing team hates an ice cold goalie that they cannot read. Composure is the key to success. What's interesting is that I get injured a lot less now than I used to when I was younger. I haven't been injured in over 6 years now. You'd think it would be the opposite with age, but again, discipline and maximizing your movements' "efficiency" also leads to less sprains and injuries.

Quick question. 2:42 in the video he plays the shot right and comes out outside of his paint and makes the good save but what if the shooter decides to wrap. He’s out fairly far and I it almost looks like it would be hard to get back to he’s blocker side post. So I was just wondering your thoughts About this. I love the video keep up the great content.
@FutureProGoaltending2 ай бұрын
There is always a read to make. If there is significant help in front a wrap around attempt will still put that attacker in danger. It you over challenge too much it will also encourage the wrap. But think of it this way. If a man has time and space to wrap that is 100% crap D zone coverage. If a man #rvhfails you from a poor angle because you were afraid he MIGHT wrap, that is 100% on you the goalie. You have hit on the core issue with modern goalie coaches. They are teaching goalies to not read and trust what their teammates are doing and then shrug their shoulders when they get beat from the corner on a shit angle. “Just a great shot!” BS
@parkerhay38022 ай бұрын
@@FutureProGoaltending That makes more sense I like how you said it’s always your responsibility to have that shot and to make that save every time. And to also be able to make that read of when he’s gonna wrap.
@ceoofupfuckery.85612 ай бұрын
As my goalie trainer once told me in my youth: If you have to make a Hašek, you made a mistake or you defenders made a mistake. 99% of being a good goalie in any sport is just to read the play and be at the right position. The rest is up to luck and luck is usualy obtained by a lot of training. Preferably ping pong (or table tennis or whatever you call it).
@FutureProGoaltending2 ай бұрын
Another way to look at it is that if you made saves like Hasek, you would be an NHL Hall of Famer, a Stanley Cup winner and a multi millionaire. 😎
