"Sad Ham" another useless millennial buzz word like "fan boy" that can be used as a stress card when one gets their feelings hurt on the internet or can't admit they are wrong or unwilling to agree to disagree. Wonderful.....

I have one of the MFJ Hamstick dipole mounts I use with the military poles like you. I sacrificed one of the poles and just keep the mount attached to it. In other words I made the clamp mount work on the pole (drilled a little indention on both sides would except the diameter of the clamp). There in turn it does not have the lean like your antenna does with the extended mount. I get by without having to guy it and can easily go up 20ft with it. Robert KD4YDC

Hi, Stuart. I'm confused. You claim that the antenna uses "hamsticks" but they appear to me to be telescopic whips, which technically are not hamsticks. Can you clarify that for me? Thanks, Marc (N1QGM)

I got out of POTA several years ago for reasons I won't get in to. I have a Provincial Park literally in my back yard and a national historic site, lighthouse, about 20km south of me. Those were the two I activated most and had a kilo award from both.
@outnaboot9 күн бұрын
@@ve3pcp Thanks, I would love to know more. POTA is great for the fun of portable ham radio...which I love...DX and working portable; however, working rare DX is more fun for me. I would rather take that $300 in fuel and invest into better antenna systems and power 🙂

@@outnaboot I can sure understand that. Here is a video from 2019 from my local park. I did two that day. One in the morning from the lighthouse. Holy cow! "hovering around $1.65 per litre" in Canada! Here in Australia we are being told we have some of the cheapest fuel in the world by Labor Party (read Democrat/socialist/union controlled) politicians at an average of $2.00 (Diesel) and $1.80 (no the Premium ($2.10) gasoline) per litre. AND we here are always travelling many, many kms between towns because the distances between and within states is extreme with most of the population spread up and down the East coast from Cairns in the North to Melbourne in the South - a distance of about 3500km. along the populated route via Sydney and Brisbane

My dad was a CBr in the late 50 and into the 60s. His club set my standard of what a radio club should be. They had weekly nets. Daily QSO. Monthly meetings. Monthly Caravan trips. A caravan Trip was a Saturday long event where they drive. They made frequent stops at sightseeing stops. The midpoint was a restaurant or a picnic. They did all this while talking on their mobiles. I tried 5 or 6 ham clubs since the 80's. They all suck. I suggested a caravan. That was the dumbest idea ever uttered I was told. Mountain topping? Still dumb. All the clubs, I've been to, just want to argue rule books or pose for pictures at someone Field Day or see who can smoke the most cigarettes. Two of the Ham clubs HAD NO NETs. They had NO DAILY QSO Frequency. One club, a off road ham club, did no off-road activities, nor did they have a net frequency. They only did packet for 10K runs or chilly cook off or such BS. Ham clubs are a waste of time.
