Be very careful with the trim piece that runs from the door up to the convertible top. The replacement piece is over $1400 US… Canada it’s over $2000 for a piece of rubber. I asked Porsche to explain, it’s “meh” We don’t care what you think
@JohnBaxendale6 күн бұрын
So I went with the Function First kit, which includes a couple of extra parts of this, but is also quite a lot more expensive - however, it eliminated *all* the play, it's like a rifle bolt. I've taken some videos which I'll get round to uploading at some point! PS: That bird turd is very distracting.

Bore score is mainly due to bad injector washing the oil off the cylinder wall. Sample the oil, fuel in the oil is the 1st indicator. Run fuel injector cleaner often on DI cars.

I’d love a video on fixing the B pillar trim. It’s a fing $1400 us to replace it. I’d rather sell the car. Why do these German manufacturers do this stupidity ?
@otter11_marsАй бұрын
Will I heavily urge you to remove this ASAP. I bought a similar short shifter, had the exact same issue with the play. No matter what you do IT WILL come back. Ultimately this left me stranded at the side of the road, the play in the shifter led to it not selecting gears properly and it ripped one of the cables off of the gearbox, leaving the car stuck in reverse. Buy the Porsche short shift kit directly from them, it costs about £350 and it replaces the entire housing.
@oli_box25Ай бұрын
Hmm, I stand unconvinced. For me, the side to side play is really the part of the issue I'd hope to fix. Seems like a good value though! As always, super helpful video, cheers mate

Just got 987.2 Boxster S. All my friends told me to get 981, which is going for not that much more, but I prefer the older car, mainly the steering and raw feeling. The only thing with Boxters/Caymans is that they don't get much street cred, even though mine cost the same as 997.1 or 996, but hey, it drives like a dream and I'm enjoying it.

How long did it take in total to fit the new cables? Shifter cables snapped on my 987.2 Cayman S. My local Porsche specialist are charging me almost £1,300.00 to fit the new Porsche cables (new lever and bracket as well).

The two options are you either do your own maintenance and servicing or keep a £2000 slush fund. I sold my 987.2 Cayman due to extremely high running costs and replaced it with the more reliable 981 Cayman, yet I have a small slush fund for any unforeseen problems.

If you’ve put £20,000 already into your car together with the actual amount you paid for it you could have bought a far newer version of the Boxster surely? I’ve just got rid of my 987, loved it but the car became a money pit unfortunately, as they all will because of their age and the state of British roads! You obviously like your car, so good luck with it👍
@jeffreyroberts74382 ай бұрын
Just got rid of my 987, the bills just caught up with it and the failure of the coolant pipes was the last straw. It’s the longest time I’ve ever kept a car because I liked it, but eventually they become a money pit. And they all eventually suffer the same issues.

@jeffreyroberts74382 ай бұрын
@@04stigerthink you may be a fairly lucky exception, because of the age of the 987’s they all eventually suffer the same worn out parts. And those parts plus Labour are really expensive!

Thanks for watching mate. Im in the same position. The bills on these can get pretty high so I try to do what I can. I have just had a handbrake spring break, cheap fix but I think it will be a dificult job. I guess we will find out 😂
@cheetos5862 ай бұрын
Because I have a separate daily driver and decent sized driveway - I would have done the work on my own and invested the labor costs into my tool collection. Here I would have sourced the parts on my own and bought the following tools: quick jack to lift the car, an engine jack / holder to pull the engine and transmission out Once the engine was out I would go to town updating old pipes and seals this would take a bunch of time but I think its worth it for these cars, considering these items are why the values have dropped in these cars making them affordable (987.1) Also next time I want to lift the car up and do suspension work, itll be much easier / cheaper with my new jacks
@cheetos5862 ай бұрын
I have an 06 base 2.7L Boxster with 165,000 miles. Apparently this is the sweet spot for the IMS and bore score. I believe all Boxster S models have the issue, and the 05 base model had the ims issue. The 07 and 08 I think have more bore score related issues (can someone comment the facts) These cars sell cheap BECAUSE of the issue. Mine has a lot of suspension issues and wear. I kinda want to fix everything but feels like im dumping money into something with too high mileage.
@willbehindthecamera2 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. Wow that is a high milage hero. I think its cool to keep it on the roads and once the major bits are updated it should feel like new.
@marcusoutdoors49992 ай бұрын
Hartech are in business because Porsches are driven hard, often from cold. Unlike many hard core sports cars, they’re also driven to high mileages. So I suspect while there may have been some bad batches of cylinder block liners, or cases of fuel contamination which affected many 528 BMWs pre 2000 destroying the cylinder liners (too high sulphur content apparently), but really it’s not really an issue when so many Porsche 987/997s do well over 100,000 miles without needing a rebuild (the vast majority in fact). Also most air cooled engines need a rebuild at 100,000 miles and they don’t suffer from bore score.
