Laugh.. Coach Hairston mentioned the halftime conversation during the time when we were talking and the WAVY and WTKR cameras were rolling. I had to ask -- "would you care to say what you told your team?" He laughed, and said, "Not on camera."

It says something about him that he allowed the kids to overrule his moral compass. Then again, what do I know? Maybe he doesn’t have a moral compass?

Just now getting to the video from Saturday. I don’t think fixing the playoff system is rocket science and so I would be an advocate for saying a team should have a minimum record to qualify. The rule would be each region can have a maximum of eight teams in the playoffs, but teams need to have at least a 4-6 record. Why 4-6 and not .500? It would mean a 4-6 team could win a region to be .500 entering the state semifinal. If your team has 3 wins or fewer, you can’t be in the playoffs. I am from Northern Virginia and I’ve been following the VHSL since the early 70’s. Because power points are used to determine who makes the playoffs and not records, in Northern Virginia for example, it is very possible to have in a region a team be 4-6, but more power points than a team that is 6-4. If you have enough teams to fill a full 8 team playoff bracket, and all teams are 4-6 or better, fine. If not,you make a bracket that has byes. That’s my answer to Ed’s question
