A lovely sketch. Great colours, and I dont think perspective makes any difference in most cases. The eye sorts it out for itself, somehow. I'm off to do do some plein air with a group of sketchers in a town, Alnwick, close to home. I've sketched on my local beach and enjoyed the various people coming up to me, even small kids. Every one of them was very kind and complimentary, the kids asked question. I love it. I hope youll do it again. Thanks for sharing your process.

Thank you! ☺️ Going out to sketch in a group sounds great! I haven’t looked into any groups near me really. I love the color palettes and patterns and textures you've used. Some of them remind me of schools of fish in a colorful reef and others of landscapes seen from above. Braided rivers from above look like shiny streaks in the landscape. I'm in a bit of a funk at the moment, mostly hormonal 🙄, but hubby was laid off a month ago and hasn't had much luck yet finding work so I guess there's a bit of that lurking in my mind too. I just can't seem to get it together right now, so I'm reading a lot of art books for inspiration and checking in here and Instagram to see what everyone else is doing. I did finally buy some of those art creations sketchbooks 2 small and 1 A5. One of the small ones was for my daughter. They're thicker than I expected, more pages I guess, so more than worth their cheaper price. I think those 3 cost me less than the 1 Moleskine I have. I don't mind the yellower paper either, as my Moleskine isn't pure white. I could have bought the white paper ones but art deco and flowery covers aren't really my thing lol. I like to cover mine in stickers and marker pen, then I know at a glance that it's mine. I think tomorrow I'll just pull out some paints and paper and potter around for a while, maybe that will trigger an idea and magic might happen. Messy magic. "Don't worry about liking what you're creating as long as you're enjoying the process". I think that should be my motto for a while until I get it together. Have a great week 😃

Hi! Thank you so much for your comment ☺️ I’m sorry to hear about your husband being laid off. I hope he is able to find work soon! These ‘life’ things really get in the way of our creativity don’t they?! It’s like our brains get filled with all the life stuff so it’s hard to let go and have some fun or me time with your art. And you can feel guilty for it too! But you shouldn’t ☺️ The art creations sketchbooks have sooo many pages! It’s taking me ages to fill mine but I love the paper! I’m with you on the art deco cover, I didn’t like that. I am currently making my own art journals with all different papers in them which I will share in my next video and I love how I can make them exactly how I want and with the exact fabrics on the front cover I want too! It’s a lot of fun ☺️ I hope you managed to fit in some creative time! And if you don’t like what you create, EVEN BETTER! Then you learned something at least 😍 x

I clicked on your video because I'm always curious what people put in their travel art kits. I also bought one of those wonderful Lihit lab cases. Mine is a beautiful olivey green and much thinner than yours, cause I wanted to be able to keep it in my purse all the time. I just love it. I found a great YT video from a while back where some smart person used an empty clamshell that a set of a dozen Tim Holtz gears came in to construct a watercolor palette. It is the neatest thing. The little indentions hold a surprising amount of artist's grade tube paints, and because it is only about 1/4' thick and weighs pretty much nothing, I can get an amazing amount of other supplies in my little case. I really enjoyed getting a glimpse of Margate Beach. I grew up very close to the Gulf of Mexico, and spent a lot of time at the beach growing up. It's been quite a while since I've been to the shore, and I especially liked your little gull friend! I was #986 subscriber. Congrats, you should be at 1000 subscribers any day!

Amber, I'm really sad that you've only just 'discovered' the joyous adventure of colour, and I'm really glad glad, glad that you _have_ found it now! I think it does take time to break away from the kind of art you were doing, so be kind to yourself with that. I think, too, that eventually you'll discover that 'realism' doesn't have to be tightly rendered detail, but can be imaginative and free. 'Realism' just means that it looks like the 'real thing', but it doesn't need a lot of detail to achieve that. It can be done wth just a few lines! Changing colours, choosing what you put in and what you leave out of your work is what makes it fun. If people want 'real', hey, they can just take a photo! After all, I think the majority now has a mobile phone with a camera. If they want it mega-realistically drawn, well, they can buy some tracing paper and trace it for themselves. It isn't hard - it just takes a bit of time and patience. But you, as an artist, you can do whatever 'talks to you', and no-one's going to know that you moved that clock tower across to the other side of the picture, and made it say 10 to 10 instead of 9.15, or that the shop awning and paintwork was a dull brown, and you've changed it to a lively pink! Or that the person walking down the street was carrying a heavy basket and you've given it a back pack or nothing at all - all that is up to us, the artist. Also, remember when you show your work to someone, never point out your 'mistakes'. Hold tight to your tongue and listen to them - they aren't going to notice these things, and even if they do, you can just shrug and say, with a smile or a grin, "Well I like it like that!" When I was a beginner, a passing stranger saw what I was painting and wanted to buy the finished product. I suggested that she came back in a couple of hours and see if she still wanted it. When I had finished, she did come back. I wasn't happy with it, but she loved it, paid for it and went away with it and a huge smile on her face! A good lesson learned! Hope something here is useful? 🤗

Hi! I really really appreciate this comment ☺️ thank you! Lots of useful info here, especially the part where you talk about not pointing out your mistakes to the viewer. I especially have to hear that now that I am diving into the world of abstracts. I am experimenting with lots of different marks on each piece and some I love, some I hate! When I show my husband or anyone else they usually point out that marks that I don’t like as their favourite! So it’s very interesting to hear others opinions and it’s made me realise I am way too hard on myself. I think I took on commissions way before I was actually ready and could understand what it would be like to work to a schedule and when I ended up behind on my commissions I then took it out on the actual artwork if that makes sense, I’ve had a bad taste in my mouth about realism ever since. Only now am I beginning to realise exactly what you said, realism can be a lot of things and doesn’t have to be tight detailed pencil strokes rendering an image exactly the same! I do love the process of learning, and I really appreciate you taking the time to leave me a comment! Amber x

@@Little_Ammy_Arts Hi, Amber! I'm chuffed to bits to have been able to help, and that some of it, you're discovering yourself, too. I love your comment: _"I am experimenting with lots of different marks on each piece and some I love, some I hate! When I show my husband or anyone else they usually point out that marks that I don’t like as their favourite! "_ It is sooo true!!!! _"I then took it out on the actual artwork if that makes sense,_" Yup! That makes perfect sense to me! _" Only now am I beginning to realise exactly what you said, realism can be a lot of things"_ ... And it sounds as though healing's happening - Briliant!!! _"I do love the process of learning,"_ I do, too. I have a serious version of the "What if..." syndrome! "What if I try this?" ... "What if I do it this way instead?" and lots of other "What ifs" which lead me off into interesting / exciting new things and reminders of things long forgotten! We're never, ever, too old , too young, or just too anything for the "What if? Adventure!" I've had it since I was a baby and at 73, I'm still enjoying this weird, curious and wonderful "What-if" world of our curious, enquiring minds... 😄

Great chat Amber.! As a burnt-out semi retired magic realist artist I now paint what I want for pleasure..mostly small watercolour works . Love now to do wonky perspectives and lìnes and paint with waterbrushes. I used to do large acrylic paintings.. and painted tiny details in my work. It was not worth getting repetitive strain in juries and damaging my eyesight. Younger artists should be aware. I loved impressionist art as art student but got into realist commercial and fine art. Thanks for video..❤ your work. Take care. From Canada 😊
