Great transcription. Could anyone clarify exactly what alternate fingering is happening during the b flats? Is it the e flat fingering without the g key? Or is it just the upper harmonic?
@thomas.wieland2 күн бұрын
Ya, the fingering he's using (most of the time) is Eb but with 1 and bis in the left hand (instead of 123). There was some video where another saxophonist was explaining how Chris Potter uses that fingering to get the note to have some more cut and brightness, but I can't remember who said it. I didn't even realize how much he was using it until I was almost done and decided to go back and watch his right hand in the video and was surprised to see how often he was using it, even in his runs. I admit the notation isn't really "correct" in terms of the "shading" of the bis Bb and was debating on even adding it, but oh well... glad you asked though!

hey Thomas, I'm sorry for the confusion... in the meantime I figured out that I can't open it in drive, but I can indeed download the Zip files :-) so all good I've never played a transcription of someone else .. it's a good exercise, isn't it? I've only transcribed tunes myself so far but then never found the focus to thoroughly study the score that I had... do you have any recommendations for working with a ready transcription effectively?
@thomas.wieland4 ай бұрын
Yes! Even though you may have a written transcription, you should still try to learn each solo by ear and eventually memorize it; only using the written transcription as a reference. A written transcription also allows you to see how each phrase works over the changes visually and, at least for me, has helped with memorization since I am able to see everything in front of me.
