I'm on the edge of quitting my job due to micromanaging...its a good union job but I'm on my way out...my work partner doesn't work at all.. while I'm doing all the work .... i don't know what to do

I had just left my most recent job last Friday because my former boss is a Micro-manager. I will give a few instances their was a generator test that was being conducted on a different location and my manager was not following the rules that he himself implemented. At the same he had task a different team to request training to how to operate the HVAC Systems in the data Center in case of emergency. At 8:15 am i get a call from the team lead that she has a team member who happens to work overnight was standing by to request training for the HVAC systems. few moments later my boss calls me that he wants a last minute maintenance ticket for a generator test. So knowing that the maintenance will take time because in the IT world you have to explain the procedures, you have to explain the emergency back out procedures, you have to explain why you are conducting the procedures. Those takes tremendous amount time, so i proceeded to finish the easiest route was to train the team member because it only takes less than ten minutes and he has been there for over 8 hours and i do not want to hold him up even longer of course for his safety. By 8:40 I had completed both task. Despite that i had completed both task he got angry that why i did not follow how i suppose to proceed where he want that Maintenance ticket be submitted first then train that team member? That is one of the main reasons that i left because i have no creativity to perform any kind of task without him on the background trying to control every aspect of it. On the same week i was called in to inspect an HVAC unit after hours where me and the HVAC technician were investigating the mechanical issue and he wants us to call him every ten minutes to update him making it impossible for the technician to do his job. This call was 10 pm and my manager works from home in a different state. He wants us to work all night ???? No i told him Nope not me I quit i dont want to work for an incompetent and a micromanager .

Many people who gets put into a management position is never train how to lead. I wish that their is a course that is offered to the work force like when i was in the MIlitary where we went to leadership training when we were climbing up in ranks. Many of this issues would have been avoided.

Micromanagement is just a bullying tactic plain and simple and if it's coming from your boss the situation is untenable. Best to try and save if at all possible and find another job. This is why folks job hop so much these days. So tired of these toxic managers!

My boss in Qualcomm sandiego was highly micromanager. When bosses micromanager they silently communicate that they don't trust you that you will do your work or finish your work. They don't trust you enough , so there is need of micromanagement. They do it directly or via other people whom apparently they trust... It signals to you that you are failure in your boss's eyes.

This is one of the reasons I quit working for a cleaning contractor. I was contracted out to the UPS hub on the west side of Columbus from April 29, 2007 to August 31, 2022 and it was stressful. Things got worse in 2021, when my supervisor kept pestering me to speed things up. I am on the autism spectrum, and was VERY nit-picky about equipment maintenance

I have an extreme micromanager and have done all of these things, but she doesn’t want to change and get very defensive (cries, gets red in the face, etc) when even something minor comes up about her excessive control. The entire team is looking to find new jobs, it’s pathetic. You are right, micromanagers are the busiest people in the world because they are trying to do it ALL.

It's unfortunate that they don't see that though. They are too deep to realize that one of the reasons they're so busy is because they are too hands on. 🤷♂️

Six months ago we got a new boss. I meet with him once a week for a one-on-one meeting. I used to love these meetings, and in the beginning I felt I was creatively contributing ideas. But over the last few months, these meetings have felt more like a chore, and now I actually dread them because they always feel like performance reviews. And you're absolutely right about "sucking time"; he goes through phases where he wants to "declutter" areas (our staff lounge was a bit of a mess, but he had us all take time out during the week to clean the area out, which naturally took time away from what we needed to do). Also, he was fixated on my desk (which was on the smaller side) and I know the reason he was fixated on it was because it was cluttered. So he actually got a larger, wider desk for my office (he got it through a colleague who was moving away) and kept telling me I needed to clear my old desk out so this new one could take its place. But because it's larger than my old one, I had literally rearrange my bookshelves and and other office furniture to accommodate it, so again, massive time consumer.

Now that's interesting. Sometimes leaders exert control over seemingly irrelevant things as a way to gain control, maybe over others or from a self psychological perspective. Then at the end of the day they are tired, cranky and blame the team for them being so busy. Terrible cycle for all involved? Where are things now??
@Sirie72064 ай бұрын
@@DarylDBlackmy boss, a CEO, picks up our office mail, sorts it and distributes it, when it’s my colleague’s job. For our office move, she did it all. Wouldn’t let my colleague coordinate it. Then complained she had to do it all. It’s a toxic cycle.

I'm a new firefighter that fell into opportunities for quick moments through the ICS/NIMS trainings. I'm taking the Ops Section Chief this week and needed to gain the big picture but from a view that I can relate to. This video was beautiful put together. Your explanations along the way and revisiting of the org chart was perfect and kept my brain operating in a proper capacity due to feeling like I was informed and along for the ride. If I'm ever instructing I will use your technique of revisiting the expansion of the incident to keep students up to speed. The other big takeaway(since I'm on the Ops side), was that it was a smart move to make the initial IC the Ops Lead since they have the most info and have seen the expansion of the incident from the beginning. I agree and think this gives them many different metrics to make decision while conducting operations. Thanks again, I'm subscribed and will be looking into more of your content as I dive further. Keep it coming! Thanks so much from Cordova, Alaska!
