Katie - I wanted to ask you what resources you found most helpful when you were caring for your mom?
@thecarefullistКүн бұрын
Dementia is tough because everyone is different. We got very tired of hearing that, but it's true. Two books in particular were useful: The 36 Hour Day by Nancy Mace and Where The Light Gets In by Kimberly Williams-Paisley. I would look into palliative care to see what your insurance covers, and do not hesitate to get a hospice evaluation. They will provide care when it looks like a patient has six months left. We had 3.5 years of hospice coverage due to the slow decline of dementia and that added support was critical for all of us. It was also great to have family/friends/neighbors who just pitched in to help. They would say "I'm running to the store, what do you need?" Or "I'd like to come sit with your mom for a few hours. What day works so you can have a break?" Find a few people like that, if you can. Sending you peace and strength.
