I was there at Daytona when Barry's tire failed- didn't actually see it happen, but saw the aftermath- crazy that he even survived a crash at that speed

I grew up watching Surtees, Duke, McIntire, Agostini, and Hailwood, and all those other guys racing. It gives me goose bumps watching Bob McIntire in On the Right Line. When I look at the racing now, I can't bear to look at it. It looks like a computer game to me. Those previously mentioned, had 'guts', character, and strength. You had to be a man to get around on those monsters! Something utterly lacking in today's racing.

One has to wonder, after he remarried and had Henry, that he was relieved to have an heir to pass on that wonderful, historic home...

Just as an aside... I've been a motorcycle nut my whole life, my father owned a Honda and Bultaco dealership in southern California and I idolized guys like Dave Aldana. Fast forward to last week, June 10th, 2024... I had moved way across the country to a little town of less than 20,000 people called Fayetteville, Georgia. I went to a neighborhood meeting of conerned homeowners who are trying to stop the installation of a powerline through our backyards... I recognized one man in the audience.. hmmm who is it? I went up and asked.. IT'S DAVE ALDANA!!! REALLY!!! We now live only 2 miles apart... Weird, small world!!!

Poor circuit design and not enough limitations placed on riders and bikes have led to the farce of motorcycle racing

I'm so grateful that this showed up in my recommended feed. I've just watched part 1, Murray was an incredible motor sports commentator. How could you ever forget his unique voice. His knowledge and wisdom of early F1 and Isle of Man TT was fascinating. True Legend. Great video, glad I found it.

When that media chap remarks that "We used to be apart of the entourage" and that now everything is heavily restricted and rehearsed for the media; he has no one to blame but himself and the practice of the media establishment for continuing to invade their lives and the desire to make anything and everything salacious for the purpose of selling more papers. Perhaps if people like him showed more courtesy and respect toward their privacy they would still be apportioned to being apart of the circus and publicists would be a necessity.

10 abreast on the start line!. You should have been at the North Gloucester meetings at the old airfields in the 80s & 90s. We were 20+ abreast. First corner mayhem, bring it on.

I remember this era of UK dominance, then by the early 1980's Spencer and Mamola turned up and destroyed the UK opposition. As far as I recall, this was ascribed to a change in tire technology favouring the tail-sliding late-in/drift-out technique of those raised on dirt racing.
