I am weeping a bit. It is so beautiful. His artistry combined with his athleticism is spellbinding. I loved that there was no scenery, no costumes, just the music and the dancer 💕

An astounding artistry from both the choreographer and dancer. I'm glad that Studio Simkin made this available without costing us $100+ a ticket for a live performance.

Stunning. The power and beauty and grace of a male ballet dancer with such movement of expression. I wish we got to see more male dancers perform like this, yet it seems they are too often just glorified props for ballerinas, with short moments of high octane "tricks". We need more of this fluidity, these movements in the quietness of music, opportunities for musical expressions. Because as Daniil shows, it's just beautiful to watch.

Love Simkin but had trouble watching this because the shot was being cut and moved every few seconds so I got no sense of the space and how he was relating to it. Frequently, the camera angles only focused on one part of his body when you wanted to see all of it, or at least see more. Was it planned like this? Because that would be hard to imagine that planned out videography would limit how much of the dancer and his space you're seeing. EDIT: OK, my bad, tried again, and this problem resolves around the one minute mark. I like the lighting and dramatic throughline and the way he kind of dissolves in light at the end. But the filming still makes it look a little two-dimensional, as if he's moving back and forth along a single plane. Probably influenced by Balanchine, but I feel floor patterns or use of the stage are important in choreography and making it look like the danseur is just going back and forth is IMO never a good choice. But Simkin is so expressive and has such immaculate technique, he's always a treat to watch!

Nice one Daniil! The synergy of your form and dance, together with the cinematography and lighting effects, is magic. This is certainly an extra dimension in the right direction that ballet needs to take. Deeper creativity is exactly what the world of ballet needs to learn to embrace way more. It is crazy and an outcry that ballet dancers train like machines to enable their bodies to do the most exquisite of movements, and yet, by and large, the industry still shackles you the way it does. Ballet is a backbone of the “creative” arts, and yet its established mediums of creativity are restrictive and have still not properly evolved. Preserving the classic repertoires is an important task to retain the traditions of ballet, but when so many of the major companies overemphasise and over-enshrine a sense of archaism, elitism and control, in terms of narrative themes, funding, production and dancer autonomy, it prevents so many, many more people from being able to engage with this magnificent art form. Keep it up!
