Throughout the competition Pekora constantly makes references to a "strange house". This is in reference to a Japanese film recently released in 2024. Even if you don't understand Japanese I invite you to take a look at the trailer to get a feel for what the Hololive members are referencing. To explain briefly, it is mystery and horror movie. Below is my translation of the "Story" section in the trailer website, which will hopefully help your understanding. ===== STORY This house, there's something... off... no? Ririka says もりもりもーり (morimorimo-ri) which roughly translates to "Great Big Forest". もりもり (morimori) means to build up, or the state of being rich and plentiful. 森 (mori) means forest. 7. I'm not quite sure if Koyori intended this joke, but I would say she did. It's one of the best one-liners in quite a while. She first describes the location of the house: 「墓ゼロ秒っていう…」　(haka zero-byou tte iu...). This is quite similar to Japanese housing advertisements and descriptions, where it is common for the realtor to describe its proximity to important and relevant places in the vicinity in terms of time. For example, the realtor may describe that it is a 5-minute walk from the residence to the nearest station by saying something like 「駅徒歩５分」 (literally: station by foot 5 minutes). Koyori is saying that the grave is an important nearby amenity, and it is right at the house's doorstep. The second part, the follow-up, is when she says 「墓参りいつでもいける」 (hakamairi itsudemo ikeru). The first part of the sentence, 「墓参りいつでも」 (hakamairi itsudemo) can be broken down like so: 墓参り (a grave visit) いつでも (at any time). Attention should be paid to the 「いける」 (ikeru) part. The first interpretation is 「行ける」 (ikeru - to go). In that case, 「墓参りいつでも行ける」 means "You can pay a visit to the grave at any time". The second interpretation is 「逝ける」 (ikeru - to die). In that case, 「墓参りいつでも逝ける」 means "You can die and be sent to the grave at any time". This double entendre is relevant especially considering they are playing Hardcore and at a very real risk of dying at any time. 8. Pekora says 「オチ担当」 (ochi tantou), which literally translates to "the one in charge of the punchline", the "punchline" being the "ochi". This is because she expects Ao to fool around and not actually build a serious house for the competition. Shortly after, Ao denies this accusation but then shortly after falls into the pond and says 「あ、落ちたわ」 (a, "ochi"tawa), which literally translates to "ah, I fell". The joke is that she inadvertently admits to being the punchline, when in fact she wanted to say that she fell. 9. Ao named the pond 「イケメンの池」 (ikemen no ike). "Ikemen" means "handsome guy", and "ike" means "pond". It's a lame pun.
