I've had mine for at least 5 years. It's gets abused. Still going strong. For some reason it keeps an edge longer than my larger plane

I have three of these in total, two are complete. Stanleys I think. They are fantastic, and perfect to get the children into woodworking. They plane for literal hours, enjoying the process.

Why would I construct something with those big ass holes to fill on the finish side rather than use another method?

I'm not trying to knock your jig, I'm probably going to make something like this. I've always glued dowels in the holes and flush cut them

Good tips, but you need to get rid of the noise when you show what bite size tip it is. It's detracting from your voice over and not all your words are intelligible.

Just set the teeth to track in the centre of the tyre, so the tension is at the gullet of the band. You can't get any band saw to track if it's tensioned at the rear of the band...

There are those steel rulers about a meter long. They are even better as they are more "springy" than aluminium. =)

Truly a thing of beauty, Rob! I turned my carver's mallet a few years ago. I used Texas Ebony and Bocote. And I love it!

Why wouldn’t you sand the dowels flat instead of using the a chisel ? You had already belt sanded the 2 sides of the mallet?

Mallets from scrap are awesome and super cheap and easy. I did a Thor's Hammer one tume for haloween, forstner bit and some PVC pipe, hot glue or epoxy to hold it in. Add in a hand stitched leather strap, a little bit of spray paint, and you have a funtional tool and Halloween prop, all in one.

out of curiosity, why not have the dowels go all the way through? why have shorter dowels AND plugs?
@jimthesoundman8641
@jimthesoundman8641 9 күн бұрын
Maybe he wanted to use cheaper or stronger wood for the dowels, and still wanted the visuals to match. Or maybe he didn't have enough fancy wood to do the dowels and this was a workaround.
@user-bx9sr5rb4y
@user-bx9sr5rb4y 8 күн бұрын
The plugs are cross-grain for asthetics and the dowels are long-grain for strength.

A wise man once sent me a cipher that decoded to "A good woodworking mallet delivers a message; carve your path with precision and let your work make the noise." I think that applies here. ;)

I would say "Check your drill table to make sure it's perfectly square to the drill bit, oftentimes they can drift from things banging into them" Also, almost all drill bit chucks can be upgraded. I got a nice hand-tightened chuck off of Temu or Ali Express or Ebay, can't remember which, but it was the best 36 bucks I've ever spent. I never have to worry about the chuck key anymore.
