15:55 I disagree. Low score over the series really isn't that hard to understand. Everyone understands golf scoring. Imagine a poker tournament that ends with a single hand sudden death knockout. In a lot of wind conditions that's what a sudden death race is like

Just came over from the LGBTQ+ in sailing panel. So glad we are having these discussions about inclusivity and the future of sailing! The wind and waves don’t discriminate and neither should we! Our sport depends on the acceptance and involvement of all people that want to be sailors.

This is a great thing for sailing to be focused on! Thank you for doing this. The future of our sport (and society) depends on it. Now over to the panel on minorities and people of color in sailing!

"...there's such diversity in this sport...we didn't grow up privileged...we inherited a business...we sailed on our 30-footer every Friday...and the opportunities kept coming" Knowing the homogenous audience, perhaps his narrative is intended to relate. "Getting color into the sport," was a particularly humorous touch about, maybe paint?

I was glad to watch this panel. We recently joined the sailing community at large. For years I had an interest in sailing but didn’t feel that as a gay man I would be/could be included. Even now, as we begin our journey of sailing around the east coast of the USA and eventually the world, we as a couple, feel a deep level of anxiety about the acceptance we will find here and abroad. Having positive, non tokenist, representation is integral to moving society forward to be more accepting and in celebrating each other’s differences rather than shunning it. If US Sailing is serious about diversity, which I think any modern organization should be diverse, they should certainly partner with lgbtq+ organizations who know how to make safe spaces for lgbtq+ youth and take it a step further by fostering inclusion events for lgbtq+ youth and people of color otherwise we perpetuate the idea that sailing as a sport and as a lifestyle is only for straight old white guys. Also, defamations based on race, gender, gender identity, and sexual orientation cannot be tolerated under any circumstances and the penalties should be steep. Inclusion isn’t something you say, it’s something you do. Practice the ideals you espouse even when it’s hard. Thanks again for starting the conversation.

I'm glad you joined us for this conversation, and I am 100% with you in that this is a great first step, but it cannot be our only step. I also think that partnering with an LGBTQ+ org would be a great step for US Sailing. My email is [email protected] if you want to connect more about this! I'd love to continue our conversation.

I'm probably the New England high school coach John mentioned. Do I have stories to tell about being openly gay since the mid-80s, doing 2 full-time Olympic campaigns in the 90s, and the bull I endured. Good for John he got an article posted in Outsport Magazine. I approached Out Magazine in 1995, and they didn't think my story was sexy enough to pursue.

Hey Marc, nice to hear from you. I shared that story second-hand not knowing who it referred to, and I'm glad to be able to connect with you. I cannot imagine what it felt like to be treated like that, and I'm sorry you had to endure. If you'd like to continue the conversation, I'd love to keep in touch.

That first sprint exercise is a popular drill in tennis from baseline to net to midcort and back. Scooping up a tennis ball allows you to get lower to the ground. Good workout! 👍

I like the application into Tennis as well. Since sailboats are a small platform to move on, it helps to express our movement over a larger distance.
