I'm sorry but Phoenix's protocal of sending a first responder ONLY on initial dispatch and then waiting for them to get on scene and determine they need to request a rescue is completely FLAWED. I know of no other department that does that. What if the patient can't wait for the rescue to get there? What if the anticipated rescue was sent on another call and the next closest one is too far away? There are too many ways for this to fail.

They send a rescue on initial sometimes but doesn’t happen often. I guess it’s all based on PTI.

They send a rescue after because its a waste of resources, if the patient doesn’t need to go to the hospital then the rescue can run other calls.

That is simply not true. We have one of the best, if not the best system in the country. Departments from all around the world send their members here to see how we do things. All responses depend on the information they receive from the initial 911 calls. Many calls are automatically dispatched with ALS and an ambo, while some are not. For example, if someone calls 911 reporting someone that has fallen and has no obvious injuries, that response would only warrant a single resource respond and do an initial assessment of the patient. Many times, patient's don't need to be transported and or other means of transport are used, saving that ambulance for a higher priority call that may kick out. If that same patient was reported to be unconscious or have obvious injuries or that they fell from a large distance, that initial dispatch would include an ambulance. It's all about prioritizing calls and saving resources. There's only a certain amount of rescues (ambulances).... they need to be utilized wisely

Q2B sirens + EVs = disaster. Let me explain. Emergency vehicles such as Police cars and most ambulances will not use Q sirens as they suck up too much energy from the vehicle’s small power supply. Meanwhile, larger vehicles such as fire engines have the necessary power supply to withstand a Federal Q. Because the vehicles are getting electrified, this means that the power supply is getting weaker, meaning that the use of a Q siren is heavily going to impact the range of the vehicle. However, as technology gets more advanced, I believe that electric vehicles with higher battery capacity are able to withstand such equipment. There are some exceptions, such as Chevy Tahoe Paramedic SUVs and Ambulances in Florida, which are using them.

I honestly think Engine 1 is the nicest truck in PHX. Hose is laid perfectly every time, shiny and polished outsides, clean flags, and awesome back sticker! Nice catches btw!

A Ladder Tender is what the Ladder crew take to all calls where the big ladder is not needed. For example Medicals, car accidents, mountain rescues and other BLS calls. This saves the wear and tear on the big ladder. These trucks have the same equipment as the big ladder and some departments might have pumps on them also, Hope this helps.
