While waiting for the weather to improve to accommodate my own build, I've been watching a lot of videos on other people's builds. I find that your trailer build looks good, is simple in function, seems to offer everything worth having in that size of trailer, and looks really good, so, congrats on a job well done!

This type of stove works very well with wood pellets. A full load can get you nearly 1 hour of burn time. If you want to extract the most efficiency out of this product ... it works best if you fill the stove with wood (to just below the secondary air intake holes) and light it from the top. I have a larger variant of this stove and I modified it to prevent damaging what was underneath it. I consider what I did a success because I used it on a plank of wood and there seemed to be no change from where I used the item and the rest. I also used wood pellets. The only real demerit I noticed is that it is a bit more difficult to pack, because I added a heat shield under the burn pot.

@@singerdave2001 Thanks for the follow-up. It went very well. I placed the outlets all the way up near the front behind the driver's seat. There is a channel through the rib between the two interior panel pieces. I also wrapped the cables with a wire loom for protection. While I had everything apart, I also installed an external SAE plug, using the smaller black rubber cap that is underneath next to the shore power plug. The other end extends to another plug inside the van. I have 200w Bluetti solar panels I lay on my roof rack, and this will now allow me to plug that into my Bluetti battery inside without having to run the wires through my front window anymore. Perfect setup. Thanks for posting this! BTW, I did this on a 2021, Passenger 148" in case anyone was wondering.

Your looks very nice and built for what you needed! We are also converting cargo trailer to camper. We are afraid to put up the peel and stick tile for fear it coming done in summer heat. We are in midwest and when not in use will reach high temps inside. How did your peel and stick hold up? Did you use any specials glue? where you get them? Did you treat the plywood in any way? Thanks for any advice/help you can give.
@singerdave20013 жыл бұрын
The peel and stick came from home depot and I just used the built in adhesive right on the plywood. I did tack down some quarter round trim at the edges to hold in place should the built in adhesive come loose. It has survived a few really hot Georgia days so far

@singerdave20013 жыл бұрын
Towed great! I did worry about going into the mountains with steep grades. But general towing I had zero issues. I later upgraded to a full size transit to eliminate the steep grade concern but for standard grades towing under 2000lbs should be fine.

Since filming I have used this little stove for lots of different things. now I just keep a small bag of charcoal and break up them up a little and drop them in. definitely more efficient that using a large grill and you can cook on it just like any stove top.I do recommend using a pan instead of the included grill grates they give you since it will keep the unit cleaner.

Thanks for the inspiration. Since the desk outlet you use is only 12 amps I used a 15 amp outlet but it was a different style and a lot more work. A word of caution - 15 amp rating is needed for a 1500 watt ceramic heater or hair dryer, or just for a safety factor.
@singerdave20013 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip. I mainly use the outlet for small items as it is usually tethered to my trailers solar and inverter. I do have a small 350watt heater butt you almost need to put it in your sleeping bag to notice its working lol

Thought I'd like this conversion video, but crazy music is soooo loud! Couldn't tolerate it. I know I can use mute button. Don't need any sarcastic remarks. When you're watching something in the middle of the night, it's not funny when suddenly LOUD music starts up, especially with neighbors above you. Might want to consider turning the volume down so it doesn't wake everybody up with hearing loss!
@singerdave20013 жыл бұрын
Sorry about that! It's kinda funny I wrote the song as a declaration that I was going to finally focus on some time in nature and away from work. I wanted go make a music video for it and originally the video was intended to be more for the song and the trailer I built to achieve my goal of escaping. Of course the trailer stole the show.

That’s a look trailer? Do you know if their sizes are fully customizable? I want something like this just a little bigger but I want to keep it small and off road worthy. Like 5.5x9 or something.

I've heard of people getting customized sizes from several different manufacturers. I guess step one would be to chat with a dealer or give the manufacturer a call.

The 5'x8' cargo trailer offers the best compromise between internal living space and towing and manoeuvring ability. Fitted out to best meet your intended usage, it is a lovely, comfortable and welcoming home on the road, irrespective of the weather! Your Travel Cabin will be your cosy base camp over many years and miles of making memories.

I agree, I shopped for alot of sub 2000lb campers and found I was limited to tear drops and really stripped down pop-ups. By using light weight materials and not going crazy with hardwood wall paneling I was able to keep the weight where I wanted while having more space than I would have with most tear drops and pop-ups.
@mattuk1805863 жыл бұрын
@@singerdave2001 do you know the final weight of your build?
@singerdave20013 жыл бұрын
@@mattuk180586 As I finished this out I was weighing every little thing and keeping a spreadsheet. I was somewhere under 1900 lbs on completion then I later added an extra battery and solar. I believe Its hovering around the 2000 lbs range. I had towed it with a four cylinder quite a bit before upgrading to a larger 6 cylinder.
@rickchavez66863 жыл бұрын
I have a 2016 Transit with 4 cylinder engine like your previous van. Did you ever run into any towing issues? My 5 x 8 trailer goes about 800lbs and I am curious to know what kind of weight your trailer comes in at after you did the conversion. The cabinets are a nice touch but I wonder about the extra weight.
@singerdave20013 жыл бұрын
I kept a scale in my garage as I was doing the build and each piece I'd hold and stand on the scale and subtract my weight before installing. I also avoided any unnessasary weight by only building cabinet faces in there and letting the trailer wall be the back of the cabinet. I see some people that load their walls and ceiling with wood planks. I cannot imagine that type of build being light weight. When I was done all my various weights summed up to around 1800 lbs later adding in two 60lb 100 amp hour batteries put me a bit closer to 2000. The transit connect had a 2300lb towing recommendation. I never had any issue towing but I did always consider my routes to avoid any extreme grades. The other thing to remember is to keep an eye on your rear brake pads. Usually front brake pads do majority of the work but when towing you really eat through the rear pads quicker for some reason.

I am looking at the exact same trailer. What is the ceiling height?
@singerdave20013 жыл бұрын
It's just under 6 foot. I am just over 6 foot. But I can tell you once you have seating inside the height doesn't affect you much. Similar affect of tear drops you just hop in and take a seat.
@donzi92933 жыл бұрын
@@singerdave2001 That's what I am trying to figure out. I have one available that is 5ft. That i put a deposit on. I think I am going to have a hard time pulling a 6.3" one
@singerdave20013 жыл бұрын
I made my benches the same height as the seat of a folding chair. You could always carry a folding chair to the place you put the deposit and see how much head room you have while seated. People deal with much less height in tear drops with no issues
