Hand-held camera ruined it for me. Totally unnecessary and imo, renders it unwatchable

I just saw it for the first time, and I'm really torn with this film. One the hand, it was a very artistic take on a very artistic man. I think the overall style did kinda fit the style of his work. And yeah, the handheld cinematography, the POV perspectives, etc. did serve to give you a peak into a different mind and all. But on the other hand, I kinda hated the entire experience haha. I guess I'm glad that there are so many people who loved it, but it definitely wasn't for me. The acting, however, was top notch, and I actually really enjoyed the scene where Gauguin said he was leaving, as I felt it showed pretty well what a panic attack can feel like.

That's a very valid take, the film is certainly stylized and therefore not for everyone. While I do believe all of the cinematography is effective to the story I could see how you could dislike it as well

Good video. What I really liked about that film was that it wasn't afriad to show Vincent not being a good person. Because they trusted us to know who he really was. Great film second best Vincent film behind 'Loving Vincent.'

Although his hair is very brown and he is portraying a man in his 30s, Willem Dafoe had amazing acting in this.

I didn’t like this film at all and i truly wanted to love it. The scenery was great and willem was wonderful but i didn’t like how they didn’t include his childhood and his venture into being a minister to his relationship with a prostitute. Also, the shaky camera was too much

Very valid criticism, the film definitely honed in on a certain point in his life and it would've provided more depth had we been given a wider perspective on his life.

You are absolutely right. The foundation that's set up in Season 1 (and in Season 2) needs to be watched to fully appreciate all that is coming... and WoW... does a hell of a lot come at you. It's so DAMN GOOD!!! AOS is the best show ever. I advise everyone to watch all 7 seasons and then go back and watch Season 1 again... OMG... How much more you'll love Season 1 the 2nd time around... hell... every season the 2nd time around is great. You don't realize how much you missed or wasn't able to take all in cuz they throw so much at you FAST!... Best TV show roller coaster ride ever! #TheCavalry is my #1. Agent May is everything!

Couldn't agree more! I actually made this short after I started rewatching the show and absolutely loved season 1. Weirdly I actually like Ward better somehow it was kind of weird. I just finished season 4 and omg Ghost Rider is soooooo cool they did such a great job with him. Plus the framework is so cool, seeing Ian De Caestecker being able to show of his acting skills as evil fits was so cool to see. He's really such an underrated actor, honestly they all are! This show really is such a roller coaster and I love hearing from other people who love it as much as I do!! Yes, May is the best!

Yes, this film is beautiful and special among most of biografic movies. I am regretful in cause of "At eternity's gate" doesn't last longer as an example this year's "Napoleon". From between whole life full of passion and desire of greatness this movie contains only last months of Vincent existance.
