Steven, i have the z50 and all the new Nikon z dx lenses and several ff z lenses. I bought the z30 hoping it’d serve as an even smaller edc and back up camera. But like others report, in bright daylight, even with the LCD turned up to maximum brightness, i just couldn’t see the image to compose on it. Have found any tricks for dealing with this? I sent it back but i still wish i could make it work.

Hey, I'm afraid I don't really have a solution. I seem to have been lucky so far and where I've been to take pictures has been ok in terms of the light. I wonder if part of it is me not tending to go out in the middle of the day and preferring woodland photography a lot of the time. Sorry I can't help...hopefully someone else will have an idea

Try the Z6 iii for a week, then I dare you to go back to the Z5. I bought a Z5 3 years and am sooooo glad I didn't buy a Z6 or Z6 ii, instead; because it was easy to justify the Z6 iii purchase. Be prepared to buy a CFexpress memory card for RAW and video files. The V60 UHS-II SD memory cards from the Z5 seem to work okay for saving the JPEGs, so far. If you have a cage for your Z5, you'll need to replace it. Keep your video files to less than 4 GB, because there is an artificial restriction on uploading them that seems to have carried over from a file sizing when saving videos to memory cards of 32GB or less capacity. Hope that upload restriction is lifted with the first firmware update.

I have the Zf. I haven't considered the Z6iii because it doesn't have Bird detection so I will continue to just use the Z9 for wildlife and the Zf for events and street and travel. The Z6iii also has the wretched flippy screen. Pre-capture would be nice if it were in RAW like every other brand, but it is only jpeg with Nikon (c'mon Nikon!). I tried to use the Zf for my wide angle lens second camera at a bicycle race this morning and it failed miserably. The Z6iii would have worked better for tracking bikes racing past, but I could have just swapped lenses on the Z9. I sold my D750 recently so had to give my battery charger away with it so now I have to buy a new one. Be aware that the Zf, Z6iii and all future cameras will not come with a battery charger ( European regulations prohibit it). Charging the Zf with USB only has been a royal pain for the past week. I have seen a rumor that the Z5ii is next.

In over 30 years of using Macs, 1 have only lost 3 hard drives due to drive failure. Since the beginning I have always had multiple backups so I never lost any files. In my current setup, all my photos and editing software are on an external SSD drive independent of the internal operating system drive, along with an identical external SSD drive to back up on a set schedule using Carbon Copy Cloner software. Additionally, i send a backup to my iCloud daily and an additional weekly backup to an external HD which I copy and bring to my office for offsite storage. This might all sound too paranoid to some but you won't know what a catastrophe this could be until it happens to you. Another useful video and lesson.

When this lens was introduced, I started to think that I could expand my photo subject universe into areas like aviation, some wildlife, equestrian, and auto racing. For a lens this capable, the price was very affordable and I decided to get one. Wow! Love this lens and am so glad I got it. Performs beautifully with my Z9. The short throw zoom ring is one of its best features. For a non-professional who is initially exploring this type of ultra-long zoom it is the perfect choice. Hope you enjoy yours!

I have found that people for the most part need 2 backpacks, one that is around 20L and one that is around 35L. My main 2 camera backpacks are a Pacsafe Camsafe V17 and the Wandrd Prvke 35L. I can highly recommend both (although I did modify the prvke to remove some Velcro, and added Molle so I could have a second water bottle holder). I do have a third which is not a camera backpack… it’s a hiking backpack from Osprey (stratos 34). It’s great because the sleeping bag compartment fits a 100-400 in its case. Basically perfect for hiking with a trinity of zooms and all the stuff you need for hiking.
