This way of thinking and attitude that inspired this video... to not say anything about poor quality and or holding companies accountable when they mess up, for "fear" this will make the company decide "that's it"... This reminds me of the food industry. I serve in restaurants. I have been a server for too many years. I can say that this way of thinking actually hurts a company more than telling them their product is low quality. I have seen people use this way of thinking to not say anything about their food. Regardless of the reason... they don't enjoy it, it wasn't made correctly, etc... people are afraid to say anything in fear of the hassle or the alternative (their food getting spit in is a fear I notice many people have). I have seen people go their entire meal, not enjoying it for one reason or another, because if they say something we'll get upset or something. Blind support, but also there's a blind fear of repercussion. For some reason people are complicit with buying something and if unsatisfied, just leaving it alone and essentially wasting money. They'll go online and yell into the void, sure, but they won't tell the server, the manager, or whoever when something can be done. We can not think that telling someone "I'm paying money for this and I need you to be better" is a bad move. Obviously some people can go too far with having unreasonably high standards and in not talking about this. People need to understand that, like this video points out, you can't expect to pay $160 for a bluray set and if there are problems with the product not to say anything because it will tell the factory it isn't worth it to put this out. This is a very damaging way of thinking

The streaming services are OK, but you have to have so many of them just to find the movies you love or the shows. After years the movies and shows are taken down.

I don't intend to stop using things like Netflix or Max (though I'd choose Max first if i had to keep only one continuously), but they often either just don't have everything i want to see or don't have them for vwey long, so a curated library of my favorite movies that I intend to revist more than once makes sense. I think the market might become more niche, but if vinyl of all things still has a market, then physical movies will too in some form. It may or may not be on the decline now, but as streaming becomes more expensive, as more and more movies get censored and altered, and as it becomes more and more like cable (because apparently these tech and media companies are run by people with zero imagination), I foresee more and more people doing what I'm doing. They may not dump streaming entirely, but the importance of physical ownership of the things you love is becoming an increasingly discussed topic. Growing inflation also encourages physical ownership as well. I'm so bullish on this idea that i even suspect that we might even see movie rental stores make a comeback in some form within the next decade.

Maybe less so with 4K, but in my experience physical media always looks and sounds better than streaming. Especially the audio. And especially if you’re buying something from a quality media house like Criterion, arrow, shout, etc., and those cases you’re getting the best possible version of the movie, not to mention all the extras that they usually include.

I'm not convinced 8k discs will ever be a thing. A lot of companies don't even want to spend the money to remaster their biggest selling titles in 4k. Plus, the technology for it wouldn't make any sense because you'd need an 80 inch TV to make a notable difference between 8k and 4k. No, I think 4k is the last form of physical media, but hey I could be wrong because I'm sure someone said the wagon would be the last mode of transportation.

All I can say is I am glad I decided to start collecting physical media. I'm up to 1,166 films so far and I am not upgrading to Blu-Ray. The problem with streaming services is that you only get to watch what they choose to let you watch. Prices are rising with streaming and even now Amazon is requiring you to pay an extra $2.99 a month to watch films without ads. If I want to watch a movie I can go to my collection and watch it, no ads and no monthly prices. I also only purchase second hand films and not brand new from the companies themselves.

How do we know if the discs are the replacement? I was wanting to get this on Amazon but I want to make sure I get the one with the new discs. Should I just order from shout? It’s 30$ more from scream factory than from Amazon.

@nuancedgamer3609 4 ай бұрын
You will be looking for a "R1" printed on the disc next to the serial number. If it doesn't have it, then will need to contact scream factory directly. Show them proof of your purchase (doesn't matter if it's directly from them or not) and they'll send you the replacement discs.

I have been Collecting DVDs for 15-18 years, can't remember, I buy movies I think I will like. I mostly like Action, Sci-Fi/Fantasy, and Westerns. I used to have 6,000 Movies on VHS, no TV, but they all broke or deteriorated. I currently have about 4,000 DVDs, about 3,500 Movies, 500 TV Seasons. I don't like Streaming, I like Physical Media. I will continue to buy DVDs as long as I can. I'm 66, I figure that DVDs will last another 10 years, I also figure I'll only live a maximum of 20 years, so I'll probably be good.

I do like streaming, as there are things I don't feel the need to own, but I will never stop buying DVDs/Blu-rays! I am continuing to ad to my collection all the time. Unfortunately there are almost no stores that sell them anymore. Best Buy and Walmart decided to no carry them so my goto is either Amazon or ebay. Long live physical media!

Another thing about Colorado is that it's getting expensive, the cost of living here has been climbing up at a faster rate than any other state and it's gotten to the point where major cities in Colorado are getting to be almost as expensive as ones in California but with the lower average wages and less work opportunities. Although for me the main reason I want to move out of Colorado is the people it attracts and the fact that it's absolutely abysmal when it comes to s*x work. There are other things like the ratio of men and women being off and also they're just being way more attractive trans women on the west coast. I have lots of reasons for not liking it here, and for me what you said about weather is one of them I also happen to like the rain so that's another; it rarely rains here. Which is why I would really prefer Seattle Portland or even California because in California it at least rains during the winter.

I love music. Should I buy every single album from my favorite band, even the shitty ones? Or concentrate on buying albums I really love from all the different bands? How about collecting many different versions of the same album? Why not simply hunt for the best possible version (for example the Japanese one with the rare bonus tracks)? I don’t have enough space or money for everything. I need to focus on what I enjoy. It is not an archive for posterity, it is a simple collection for my own enjoyment. Life is too short for mediocre films or music - focus on what you love most, I think.

I disagree. I collect DVDs and VHS tapes and CDs and toys and I'm a big power rangers fan and right now power rangers is on a break from everything and I believe it's because a lot of fans were complaining too much. I have always enjoyed it but all the complaints I believe killed it. I agree with you about the need for physical Media. I would rather pay once for something I can use when ever with or without internet. With streaming services they have it for a limited time and you have to pay for it every month. And I don't have the money to get every steaming service out there. And I just love having it in front of me anyway. But if you complain too much it will go away.

I personally like dvds because I don’t really care too much about the best picture quality. My favorite thing about dvd is that they’re dirt cheap l and you can find great deals at pawn shops and other places. At the end of the day though, just buy what you like and if you enjoy the movie or product you buy that’s all that really matters. To each their own. I also still have a huge vhs collection, crt tv and multiple vcrs. I like feeling like I’m living in a blockbuster from the late 90’s and early 2000’s and I’m a sucker for a $5 movie bin. I do agree to not blind support bad products, though I tend to buy used. Have fun collecting everybody and enjoy whatever you like!

i have a HUGE collection of blu rays (not steel books they are stupid for collecting ) and i have been seeing it dying for a long time now .. the second hand market is a poor state .. the one thing i super hate is when companys like madhouse etc release something then OOP it almost instantly too hyper inflate prices so that they can charge more for the next one even tho they dont say they do this .. im certain it is done this way .. i love collecting and i wont stop , but i have slowed in the last year or so simply thro financials and availability .

I recently started collecting Blu rays after getting a job at Sunrise Record's here in Canada, I have to say streaming is way more convenient but Blu ray, but for anything I really enjoy, like films and tv shows I really enjoy, the quality of the films is just so much better, and while I could torrent a 4k movie, its not gonna look as good as your bargain bin Blu ray because of compression, nobody can stream or store an uncompressed 80gb Blu ray rip yk? And there are genuinely things you can't watch online easily, especially in Canada, I have the box set of Batman The Animated Series, that set is a banger, and well worth the 70ish I paid for it. I also got the Christopher Nolan Batman Trilogy recently which is fantastic. I have the original Star wars trilogy, I got the Mandalorian recently as well, season 1 and 2 with steelbooks and those are killer.

I think we are stuck to watch what streaming companies have us view. I think there is a certain loss of freedom to look at shows that these companies provide us. I liked going out and buying a movie that I wanted to watch and own it myself. Blockbuster rentals are over and moviegoers are a thing of the past everyone is home watching movies on the couch with streaming. The overall experience is not what it use to be with streaming.
