The best gig I have seen and own is a Brecker Bros show from Belgium in 1994. That rhythm section with Dean, James Genus and Rodney Holmes just exploded! There was a certain rawness and grittiness to Dean’s playing…. Not real polished per se, but the notes and melodies he’d play just hit you right in the gut! Dean’s solo on the tune Spherical is the epitome of feeling a sound! I’m glad to have a gig from that band and that night in particular! Dean Brown should be required listening!!

Очень интересный пианист, на джазовой сцене Нью- Иорка несомненно один из самых ярких музыкантов.Неделю назад слушал его с группой в Smokie , получил огромное удовольствие.

love this one Samo! Susan is such a unique voice, regardless of instrument. Was lucky enough to see her in Houston in 2000 with Peter Kowald. Had never heard of her at the time but she more than held her own with the great German bassist

as to what's said around five minutes in, there were people in the band that would never be in a band together normally, I submit to you 1976 with Bianca Thornton and Eddie Jobson in the band. Albert Wing maybe shouldn't ever have been in a band with Scott Thunes...

This is one of the first recordings that I heard Kurt play on. Once I listened to it I was hooked. This album is so killin'!! Thanks for putting this up for everyone to hear. I thought it was actually a mainstream release.

Cherry's first three albums for Blue Note are absolute masterpieces - if you are a fan of Jazz, you need to have them: Complete Communion, Where Is Brooklyn?, and Symphony For Improvisors ...... they will spoil you, though - his solo music after that never rose to that level, even if parts of Relativity Suite are quite well done.

Thanks for this interview. When Jon was in Indianapolis in the early 80’s I was one of his students. I have been so thrilled to see his career unfold over the last 40 years. He is a great person and was an incredible teacher. Such a talented player! I had the opportunity to buy his old Gibson Johnny Smith. He actually gave it to me for a week or so to mess around on. I just couldn’t afford it as a college freshman. Plus, I already owned a Gibson Les Paul Custom so I wasn’t about to sell it. Anyway, such fond memories of a great time with great people. You really made the interview engaging and enjoyable. Thanks again!

If there's any bass player that comes close to Jaco Pastorius in terms of feel, playing and carrying so much authority on their instrument, it's definitely Mark Egan. He really channels in his spirit so much but still remains very much his own man, an absolute amazing bassist

I could listen to Jimmy talk for hours. and I have ! LOL Watching him play standards is great to pick up ideas. He's a great teacher. Have a listen to his album 'Like That" with Joey DeFrancesco on Hammond. The tune Pats House is nuts! It's a WTF moment for sure. That and Unit Seven are standouts on a great album. I hope he keeps playing and teaching.
