says "solution" as if costs nothing. It's expensive as hell.

Yeah, Unfortunately it's super expensive. Gemological equipment can get expensive. I did find a place that sells it for a little less though! Thank you so much for watching my video. www.aajewelry.com/ri-liquid.html

can it identify raw sapphire stones?
@dfhomsydiamonds9 күн бұрын
Great question, thank you for asking! The refractometer is best used on finished and polished gemstones. The surface of a rough gemstone will make it very hard to receive an accurate reading. It's doable, but not recommended and doesn't provided great results. Along with the fact that it will scratching your hemicylinder really badly (not recommended).

Do a polished carbonado black diamond has a refraction?
@dfhomsydiamonds2 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, diamonds cannot be tested on the refractometer. They are OTL (over the limit) The limit is 1.81, and diamond RI's are about 2.42.

@@dfhomsydiamonds what other test can be done to get the refraction of a diamond? Thanks 😊

This was very informative thank you. I have a small claim where i have spinel, corrundum, iolite, beryliocordiorite and some beryl, mostly alluvial gems. I never knew they assembled stones like that. Best find to date was actualy found at a garage sale, not on my claim bought a pendant with blue stone for $30. After certification 15/ct genuine santa maria aquamarine from Brazil. I love gemstones, hopefully one day i will cut my own faceted stones.

Thank you for watching my video! I really appreciate your enthusiasm and love for gemstones. I love them too! So much so that I've devoted my career to them, and became a G.I.A. certified gemologist. I buy sell and trade. But I couldn't do this without knowing what I'm buying. This video was a perfect example of being very carful and knowing what you're buying. Thanks again for watching, stay tuned for more.

What liquid is used, and is it replaceable or substituted?
@dfhomsydiamonds4 ай бұрын
Hello @TheMinerEangineer as far as I know you can only use Refractive Index (RI) liquid on the refractometer. You may purchase both through GIA, or just the RI liquid through a jewelry supply company. Below are the links!
