Nice build. But why does every budget gravel bike build usually use new parts for the drivetrain. You could probably get used 105 or ultegra 11s for the same money.

I'm sorry to say that, but you didn't fixed it, you ruined it. The nose got too long, waaay longer than the real one, the tyres are too big and out of proportion, and the rear wing you made looks great if you've got a car from the 2010's, but current f1 cars have a lower and wider wing, as the original build was. Yes it looks a chonky, but its lego afterall, in this scale, it looks amazing. The merc has the same problems as i saw. But for the record, this is my opinion, theese are your models, whatever floats your boat. If you like them better this way, thats what matters.✌🏻

This wasn't much of a conversion...apart from the cosmetic changes, the only difference here are the tires. I think that a gravel bike should have v-brakes or cantis...I was expecting that you would have had some mounting posts added to the frame before the powder coating.

So I’m curious… I know this was 2 years ago but now that you have all these parts put on it is it a genuinely ok mountain bike to ride on modern trails now? I have 2 old school frames like this that I want to get done up lol. A very old CCM Banff and a Mongoose Renegade, I was wondering if I replaced the fork and everything with a really good shock fork and converted the v brake to disc brakes through an adapter, and essentially made all the kinds of upgrades you have made, tires rims, etc; would it make the bike even hold a chance against a good modern day MTB? I am trying ever so desperately to get them both optimized and I’m super new to this type of stuff lol all I know is I shredded the old things in my youth and I wanna be able to do that now but like, a bit more worry free. The only thing I’m afraid of is needing to “drill a hole” and screwing up everything, I don’t wanna invest my time in the project if I’m gonna mess everything up lol
@Armin_27
@Armin_27 5 ай бұрын
Hi Michael, the Bike is still setup like this, however upgraded to a 9 speed and a 11-40 on the rear. It is a super fun bike, enough suspension with this fork for downhill, very agile with the 26" wheels. I rarely ride tough downhills or any tough trails and I don't own a modern light weight aluminium mountain bike to compare it to. In terms of the bike material I take steel over everything else. Also, you don't need to drill any holes for this setup. The disc brake adapter works like that tightened through the screw hole. I was thinking to welding the adapter onto the frame but there's really no need to do that. I mean just being able to ride your beatiful old school bikes again would be enough reason for me to do such a conversion. ;) Cheers, Armin

@@Armin_27 Well you’ve officially given me the confidence to get these builds done over the next year or 2 :) thanks for clearing that up, I was wondering if these old high tension steel frames sucked but it seems they can take a lot when converted into a hardtail with front suspension. I was very nervous putting my brand new beach cruiser on this rack. kzfaq.infoUgkxG6JIgwJhur8_Rg8UeQ3EmePzi_wSncL8 But after reading many reviews I decided to get this one and take a chance. When arrived it was very simple to adjust and put together. I also added spike tape over the metal hooks before securing and tightening the straps, and no scratches. I also purchased the top bar made by the same company so that my cruiser sits straight on the rack without having to turn upside down. Extra bungee cords are used to secure the front wheel from flapping and even piece of mind knowing your bike is secure. Definitely recommend...

I did put a disc brake adapter on a older Trek. I would strongly advise against it. The frame was clearly being damaged by the adapter and it was unstable. Enjoy the easy maintenance of cantis and v-brakes if your bike has them. Disc brakes are over-rated.
@nc3826
@nc3826 Жыл бұрын
I would strongly advise against using this or any cheap flimsy disc brake adapter. Which is readily apparent to anybody with common sense. But there are plenty, of ways to reliably get superior disc braking capabilities. Including a far more stable and robust type of adapter, which does not apply the braking forces on the seatstay. 'easy maintenance of cantis and v-brakes'? disc brakes are not affected by the trueness of a rim, so they have much less maintenance. Incompetence is underrated. Good luck with your bike and your sour-grapes.
@bs8716
@bs8716 Жыл бұрын
@@nc3826You’ve imbued the original comment with an extremist position that wasn’t intended. Disc brakes are superior. But, if the choice is between the v-brakes the bike was intended for and using a poorly designed adapter for disc brakes, the detriments of the latter exceed the benefits. Since these were listed: Disc brakes are dependent on the trueness of the rotor, so the problem isn’t eliminated. In fact, disc-caliper rubbing is a common complaint. Rim brakes /are/ substantially easier diagnose and to work on. This is not a controversial claim.
@nc3826
@nc3826 Жыл бұрын
@@bs8716 extremist position??? We agreed on the main point. That using this flimsy adapter can have a catastrophic result. But for this type of steel bicycle frame, There are relatively simple ways to modify it safely to be able to utilize superior disc brakes. Also the simple act of riding a bike reduces the trueness of a rim requiring constant maintenance, And the act of truing a wheel is more of an art than a science. Both of which is not true for a rotor. Once the mating surface is true, adjusting either type of brake is simple, Once you know what you're doing. So good luck with that. Also the superiority of disc brakes make tolerances less of a factor, reducing the need for maintenance. My question for you is since you obviously have no interest in this type of conversion why even watch the post and comment on it? Just to troll about it? c'est la vie
