You paid for it and you have the right to do with it as you chose. Hey this is America. That being said I have the right to say: That's one of the stupidest things I've seen in awhile. Good luck and God bless. jm2c

I have an all matching 1896 Swedish Maser in 6.5mm Swede made in 1900 in pristine condition...He would probable want to rebarrel it to the modern equivalent 6.5 Creedmoor...destroying it's collectible value, then sporterise it, drill and tap the receiver, and bend the bolt. Jesus Christ I still can't believe he got out that grinder.

Wonderful thing about private property. He has not hurt the value one penny it can't be anymore screwed up anymore than it already is it lay on the ground for 60 years exposed to the elements. He didn't change what it was he just verified it.

This guys a nut job who does not deserve this fine historic relic. If you can see the number on the cylinder, whats the point grinding and pounding it with a hammer??? no need to do anything more to it!! Whatever it was worth (a lot) it is now worth less than half the price after he damaged it! What a moran.😢

I can see lead-in grooves on that rusty cylinder's bolt notches, which thankfully tells me this isn't an actual genuine lotted Colt artifact from the battle of Little Bighorn. They were just square notches back then, with no lead in groove. Somebody probably cut up an Uberti, stamped a fake serial number on it, and threw it in some salt water for a few months. This is FAKE!

Hey pal, I hear the Louvre is looking for an antiquities "expert" like yourself to assist with cleaning the Mona Lisa. When you get to Paris, cut the painting apart with your sawzall to "make sure" that Leonardo da Vinci actually painted it. If Paris doesn't work out, I think you'd be great on Antiques Roadshow. I can see it now. "Oh you bought this lamp at a yard sale for 3 bucks? I'm pleased to tell you that it's a real Tiffany lamp that would bring 1 million at auction. Even though it says 'Tiffany' right here on the base, Let me just smash it apart with this sledge hammer to verify that the internal parts are Tiffany as well."

Colt stamps the serial number on several parts. If he already found the serial number on the cylinder, then he had already found the serial number. I don't understand the logic.

I fail to see the need of clearing more serial number areas when the serial number has already been established on the cylinder. Grinding on this historical find serves no purpose except to de-value and deface the artifact....this is plain dumb and redundant.

Have you ever heard of white vinegar try soaking the revolver number 7047 in white vinegar for a week and every other day take it out and scrub it with a wire brush and change it the vinegar before replacing the gun back in to soak again you will be amazed at what it will look like after a week

Interesting, this gun only has significant value IF it has the appropriate serial number, but the owner is causing damage to establish that number! Many find that appalling.
