@michaelpcoffeeКүн бұрын
You've GOT to talk about it. Not talking about it is part of why it doesn't get better over time. When you recall something; you literally forget it and re-remember it. Doing this in a supportive environment makes the memory become associated with the supportive environment in which it was last remembered.

As nationalist/Republican I am against having British troops in Ireland, however I can sympathise with this man on a human level. 19 years old thrown in to a war zone then left to rot after his service. He may have been on the 'other side' but we have to acknowledge the hurt and trauma everywhere it exists. Best wishes to you fella and I'm glad you found a healthy outlet in your art.

Should probably read a book or do somee research and grasp the fact the British army were invited there to prevent the mistreatment of the catholic community in the 60s.... I grew up in north Belfast in the 70s and it was impossible to escape the violence. Soldiers were under threat out on the streets, but safe when they went back to barracks or finished their tour. Living there, or being in the part time UDR like my father was, you were always under threat. In fact, they were safer on duty, than when they were at home or at work. I spent over twenty years in Belfast in the fire service, and again, we were attacked multiple times and caught up in riots etc. PTSD cost me everything, and i spent three periods in psychiatric hospitals in recent years. At 57, ive accepted ill always have it. I take meds which at long last seem to help, but previously have nearly killed me. The legacy of conflicts goes on for many years after they have finished, even on to the next generation.

That soldier played his part in the oppression of the Irish people who were treated as second class citizens in their own country. Northern Ireland is British? The people on the island of Ireland who regard themselves as British have always been a minority on the island of Ireland. They're now also a minority in Northern Ireland - the artificial state that was created for them. At the creation of the artificial statelet of Northern Ireland over a century ago the protestant British community had a two thirds majority. It was designed that way in order to have a permanent Protestant British Unionist majority. That is no longer the case. The British loyalist / unionist community no longer have numerical or political supremacy in their artificial state. They are now being outnumbered by the Irish nationalist community. Have a look at the 2021 census. The first minister of Northern Ireland is from which political party? Sinn Fein. Who were Sinn Fein? The political wing of the IRA. Sinn Fein hold more seats than any other party in the Northern Ireland assembly. There is a loosening of British identity in Northern Ireland, I mean the North of Ireland. Tick Tock...Tick Tock...⏰⏱️@@billbo2117
